I wanted to check out this book because this is a subject my son has shown interest. I'm not encouraging him to become a YouTube. But I do encourage various creative outlets and I think, like making crafts or painting, this is one of them. Plus, seeing the DK name attached to the book, I know immediately it's going to be a decent read. We've purchased DK books in the past and have never been disappointed. Often times, my kids like reading their DK books in bed, whether it's about Star Wars or animals. The information along with the colorful pictures make it engaging enough for them.
Video Ideas seems to cover it all. Topics covered include lighting, location, make-up, props, as well as the beginning preparation with scripts and storyboards. This is a great resource for any beginner videography. Though it's designed with kids in mind, I think adults would have fun reading through it as well.
My favorite parts of the book?
First, there's a DIY instruction set on how to make your own light reflector. If you consider kids are probably going to be reading this book, it's helpful to have low to no cost options for them.
Second, the sound effect ideas! This has always fascinated me. While watching a movie the other night, I was curious about how they made the sound. Was it squishing a cantaloupe? That's the kind of ideas this book has, though only briefly. Still, it's a start, a small spark that could inspire the reader to come up with ideas on their own.
Overall, this would be a great gift for a budding filmmaker. I really enough flipping through this book. Some of the ideas in here almost inspire me to go out and make a film! Well...almost. I received a complimentary copy in exchange for my honest opinion.
Are you interested in making your own video? If you're looking for a good place to start, then look no further than Video Ideas. The book covers aspects such as choosing your device, picking the right music, finding the perfect filming location, and editing out bloopers, all which are very important. Video Ideas is here to help you through every step of the process.
I’ll be recommending this book to my movie-making child. It was an eye catching overview of filmmaking, though not very specific, more a general taster.
Notes and Opinions: If you are looking to get your kids into being interested in making videos this is a great place to start. It is a quick read at only 80 pages and gives you a lot of overall good information. I also found some great tips for my own videos.
Go Into This One Knowing: Not totally in-depth but still a great overview to get you started.
This is a very comprehensive book, great for youth or anyone new to the video making world, that goes through everything you can possibly think of when it comes to making your own video. The author covers everything from techniques, script writing and storyboarding, coming up with idea, equipment, editing, sharing, and even predicting the weather! The book is colourful, fun to read, just the right amount of information on each topic and on each page.
