Rate this book
A fascinating and natural setting for romance and intrigue lies in the Vieux Carre of old New Orleans, heart of one of the most exotic of cities. And the lifestream of the Vieux Carre has always been Royal Street. Victor Olivier is the son of a wealthy exporter who fled his native Santo Domingo when the black revolution swept the island. This is the story of Victor's relationship with Cherie Lamotte, the fascinating daughter of an old and aristocratic family which scorns the suit of a Santo Domingo refugee engaged in business.

A bit too full of references to places in New Orleans that no longer exist. Really more a historical book than a novel. Did not finish.
