A house of her own, land for hunting, and a cow for milk. These are simple dreams yet all Aurora could hope to accomplish in her life. Then one terrifying night forces her away from home and into a long and dangerous journey. This journey could easily claim her life, but if she chooses not to go, then her life is forfeit. On the road ahead lie lifelong friendships, terrifying enemies, hard choices, and betrayal. Aurora must find a way for her strength to hold out, or she will fall.
The glowing reviews given by the other reviewers all contain accurate good points. It is a really fun adventure. Lots of good characters, big challenges for the hero, new races to explore, the questions of betrayal, hints of deception, a secondary language (which is used but also translated for the reader) and good combat scenes. The female hero of the book is very likeable and very relatable. Adults and teens would be entertained. I enjoyed it, and I do plan to read the second book.
What the others failed to report, and a mark against the story, is the large numbers of typos in the book. Also, inappropriate word substitutions, such as ally vs alley, wander/wonder, since/sense, etc. I would strongly encourage the author to invest in some more editing, to give this story the polish it deserves.
I bought this book from the author at a renaissance fair. When I got home I second guessed my decision to buy it and put off reading it for a few months. I really enjoyed the story line and the characters! I am so glad I bought it and can't wait to read the second one. There are some editing issues in the book with wrong words in the wrong place (wonder vs. wander). Overall, it was a really good read!
