Protect My Sister's Heart

Rate this book
Risa Brimmage is a twenty-year-old college student in Atlanta who’s been trapped in a four-year abusive relationship with her dope boy boyfriend, Zo. After his last brutal attack, Risa decides that she’s finally had enough and gets the courage to leave him for good. When she goes to retrieve her items from the apartment they share she finds his lifeless body bloody and still warm. With mixed emotions she panics leaving the murder scene and heads back home to Greensboro, GA to be with her family for the summer.
While back at home she runs into a familiar face from the nightclub back in Atlanta. Micah Borrego is a legitimate businessman whose family name is well respected in the streets. While he and Risa hit it off over the summer, Micah battles with a serious sex addiction and fails to fully commit. Along with his sex addiction and running a multi-million dollar luxury hotel chain, Micah has a lot on his plate. He has a very jealous baby mama who is still in love with him and a best friend named Timo who is a kingpin asking for help with his illegal business. Timo is also Zo’s older brother. In addition, to those relationships, Micah has two other brothers and a cousin whom his parents raised as their own.
Damien Borrego is the youngest brother of Micah’s at eighteen. He finds himself struggling to hold out for the young virgin girl he has fallen deeply in love with or the convenience sex that comes along with his popularity and family name. The young virgin girl he falls for is Risa’s youngest sister Raina Brimmage whom they all affectionately call Baby girl. She is experiencing love and heartbreak for the very first time with Damien and finding out who she truly is in the process.
Romi Brimmage is the second eldest sister at nineteen years old and is still trying to figure life out after high school. After Dre Borrego tells her that he doesn’t want to be in a relationship she finds herself running through one man after another trying to mend her broken heart. She ends up having a short-lived love affair with her father’s best friend Charles, who is married and is twenty years older than her. After ending their affair she reconnects with Dre because of her sister’s involvement with the Borrego brothers. But when she later finds herself pregnant she is unsure of who the baby belongs to, Charles or Dre.
Finally, there is Raquel the last of the Brimmage sisters who is the toughest and feistiest of them all at eighteen years old. She is a talented musician with a non-existent social life. However, she is a loner by choice but Melo Borrego, the cousin, takes on the challenge of trying to break down the walls she has built up. Melo is also somewhat of a loner and is very quick tempered but somehow the two find themselves in a weird love-hate relationship.
What will come of Zo’s murder? Will Micah get ahold of his sex addiction to make it all work out with Risa? Does Damien choose Raina over convenient sex? And who is the father of Romi’s baby? Find out in this roller coaster of a love story when the hearts of sisters are put on the line for the infamous Borrego brothers.

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, where she grew up on the outskirts of the city, Johnni Sherri has always been a true lover of the arts. As a natural born introvert, reading, writing and drawing had quickly become her favorite pass times. After graduating from East Carolina University with her bachelor’s degree, she remained in North Carolina where she currently resides with her husband and three beautiful children. And although today, she works in corporate America, she still continues to make time for one of her greatest passions, writing.

After secretly writing many short stories over the years, in 2016 Johnni Sherri began penning her first novel just for amusement. On a whim, she entered a short story contest in 2017 and won her first publishing contract. With this opportunity she was able to release her very first five star series titled, Protect My Sister’s Heart, which is set to be re-released in 2018. With her writing, she strives to detail the complex realities of young urban love in a way her readers can relate to. Her goal is always to paint a picture with every page, leaving booklovers yearning for more. However, fully understanding that Urban Fiction and African American Romance is not for everyone, she feels that if she can touch just one heart or mind with her work, than the late night typing is well worth it.

Ok, sooo this is my first read by this author (although I’ve had this book in my kindle to read for years)! This story goes hard Ms. Johnni Sherri. You did your thing Ms. Ma’am! I was well entertained thought out the book. Although, I did have it in the kindle verseion, I decided to listen to it through audio book. I personally didn’t like the narrators and wish I would had proceeded to read it instead. However, it didn’t take too much away from the fire story line. I really didn’t understand why Risa didn’t just go to the cops when she found Zo’s body. Maybe she thought that because he was abusive towards her, she would had been the first suspect. I am not sure but that part made no sense. Micah’s ass was just a straight up man whore I didn’t care for him that much. Now that I think about it, the only one of the Borrego brothers that I did sort of like was Melo. I think Melo and Raquel need their own storyline! Romi had a a lot of drama going on in her life. She is an example of how arrogance and beauty could be a woman’s downfall if she doesn’t humble herself. I still didn’t like how Dre did her though. Even though he was cold with it, I didn’t like the way she lied about the paternity of the baby. Lastly, Dame was my most disliked Borrego brother! He treated Raina as if he was God’s gift to women and she was still nice to him no matter what! This story was such an enjoyable read! On to book 2! 4.5 stars!

A great read

This was a great read. I was intrigued from the very first page up until the cliffhanger at the end. The families were so close. I loved the sisters relationship. Now the Borrego boys are a whole nother story. I don't know what to say about them. Craziness at it's best. But hey, you gotta love them.

Great story

This was a really well written story. I love the storyline and the concept of 4 sisters dating 4 brothers. The Borrego brothers are something else but I think they’ve met their match in the sisters. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Drama for days

After reading There's always Hope, I had to come find out more about these "Audacity Boys" lol! The Borrego Brothers were obviously hot and sexy, but all very immature. Keeping me intrigued by there close knit relationships, made it easy to understand how all the Brimmage sisters could fall in love. The blend of the families is so cute and sweet. On to the next.... I sure hope Risa gets through!

Whew!…ok

I wanted to love this book after the Heartbreak U books but I just can’t. The Borrego brothers are TRASH! The “I’m young” excuse got old super quick. It was giving weak minded and childish. None of them learned from their mistakes or each other. It was a mess. The parents were not really parenting and the sisters need to learn their true self worth. It was not believable to me. While I always appreciate the writers talent and craft this just missed the mark, for me. Like someone else mentioned, I’m invested now, so I will be reading the finale.

Assuming this was her first book written

I love me some Johnni Sherri but this book made my head heart. At points I didn’t know who was who or who was talking. All interactions with the characters seemed rushed. It lacked details and everything was quickly summarize. This book was just all over the place as far as the characters and switching from one character to the other. Now the book love and the game is amazing read a=
& heartbreak u goes in my top three favorite books.

This was a good book. Very Predictable but sometimes you need that when you read. The characters were fantastic. I definitely would have preferred to only read about one character at a time. Because I honestly forgot about others and was confused when they came up again.

Good ready, looking forward to the next one.

A mixture of messy and unbelievable

The story had such a messiness to the storyline I wanted to scream. The Borrego men were on my last nerves. Not one gave me a good vibe. The sisters. SMH....

I throughly enjoyed the "Love and the Game" series along with "Heartbreak U" by this author, so I decide to give this book a chance. I believe it was the first written by Sherri and I must say I've seen growth in her writing when compared to that of her latest projects.

I like the variety of drama in this book; everyone had their fair share of conflict that added to plot progression. The Brimmage sisters and Borrego brothers made up a dysfunctional bunch with their 'situationships' in tow! Each couple had their own issues to work through and a lot of what they go through is quite plausible when I think of dating in this day and age.

While I did enjoy the plot, I felt it was a bit hard to follow. I'm use to books with a vast character line-up, but the fact that every sister was dating one of the brothers made it a bit of a fickle to get into. Being the intro to the series, it takes some time to get to know who is who AND who is into/dating who especially when all of them are in scenes together throughout most of the book. The label/name dropping and having to list in detail what every character is wearing ...or driving in a scene was excessive at times and caused the pace to slow somewhat.

Other than that, I did really enjoy the storyline which makes me want to read book 2. The ending was left on a semi cliffhanger and it seems a lot of the conflict will come to a head in the final installment.

It's my first foray into a book by Johnni Sherri & I was hopeful that it would be entertaining & I'm sure it would've been had the narrators made the characters they'd voiced for come alive.
Usually, I prefer to listen to a book from an author I'm unfamiliar with via audible, but in this case I WISHED I WOULD'VE READ THE BOOK & DETERMINED HOW EACH CHARACTER WOULD SOUND ON MY OWN, BECAUSE EVERY LAST ONE OF THE NARRATORS FAILED TO MAKE THE CHARACTERS THEY READ FOR HOLD MY ATTENTION!
EITHER THE NARRATORS SOUNDED TOO OLD TO BE READING FOR THE CHARACTERS OF RISA, ROMI, RAQUEL, RAINA BRIMMAGE & DRE, DAMIEN, MELLO, & MICAH BORREGO.OR, JUST TOO BORING TO BE VOICING THE CHARACTERS, OR A COMBINATION OF BOTH!
I mean, One of the female narrators SOUNDED AS THOUGH SHE WAS READING FROM A FIFTH GRADE BOOK WITH NO EMOTION PUT INTO HER WORDING FOR THE CHARACTER SHE'D VOICED!
IT DREW AWAY FROM THE STORY THAT SHE WAS NARRATING & I COULDN'T THINK OF NOTHING ELSE BUT QUESTIONS OF WHY WERE THESE PERSONS CHOSEN TO NARRATE FOR THESE YOUNGER CHARACTERS!
I'll give it another try by borrowing the series from the library in order to get acquainted with both the BRIMMAGE & BORREGO Characters BECAUSE THE NARRATORS RUINED THIS EXPERIENCE FOR ME!

Must Read

This book was too good. Melo and Raquel were a trip. Those two knew they liked each other, but stayed bumping heads. I liked Micah in the beginning, but then he started acting like every other boy. Smh. He made me mad towards the end of the book. He always wanted to preach, but he wasn’t even living right. Dame also made me mad at some points in this book, but he met the right one dealing with baby girl. She would rather let him go so he can do him instead of chasing him and getting hurt. Dre had some growing up to do and he will realize that when he finds out that all the hurt he caused Romi will cause himself more hurt. He is going to miss out on a lot all because he wants to run from his feelings. I loved the bond the girls had. They held each other down no matter what. I am so looking forward to book two because this ending has my head spinning out of control.

Good Book

I really enjoyed reading this book and how close the two families have gotten. I hate that the men don't know how to be faithful to save their lives. I want to know who really killed Zo and I hope it's not Risa's twin sister trying to frame her. I also wonder who's Risa real dad and where has her twin been. I can't believe that Micah was still messing around with Melody. Dre is going to feel mighty dumb when her finds out that Romi's baby is actually his too. I don't blame Romi since he chose Brandi over her. Dame needs to stop playing with Baby Girl's feelings before she find someone else. Raquel and Melo need to get it together and decide whether they're going to be together or not. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Mannnnn

This book was straight 🔥🔥🔥. I love all the sisters but Raquel is my favorite. I love all the brothers and Melo is my favorite. Risa has been through a lot with Zo especially the abuse so when she got wit Micah I knew he was good for her until he broke her heart all for some sloppy toppy. To and Dre's relationship is complicated because he in his feelings about the baby. He hurt my heart the way he talked to her and made her leave the she had a bad car accident and I knew he was gonna make things right but men want they cake. Dame is just selfish he want to sleep with who ever but don't want Raina to look nother another man without staking claim. Last but not least Raquel and Melo just keep dancing around each other but know they in love. Ready for part two.💘💝

Borrego Brother

Wow...I dont know where to start. There was alot of drama going on in this book. The Borrego boys were definitely something else and the Brimmage girls only added to it. I was actually rooting for them all to have a happy ending but then it wouldnt make the story so interesting. Glad to that Romi is growing up & realizing she has to step her to take care of her child...just not sure what type of effect her secret is going to have. I feel so bad for Risa right now but hopefully everything will work out in her favor. Ready for part two to see what drama unfolds next.

Yeah, these Borrego brothers are something else!

These are some young thugs, and I mean that in a good way, who have commitment phobias. Why, I do not understand cause what I have read about their parents thus far you wouldn't think they would be. The Brimmage sisters on the other hand are the complete opposite. Although not afraid of commitment, they just do it too quickly in my opinion. And while they're involved with these brothers they just keep experiencing heartache. I really enjoyed book one and am glad I have book two already cause if I had to wait to see what's gone happen I would go crazy!

Review of Loving A Borrego Brother

Whew!! This book was so good, I didn’t realize I passed my curfew. Those Borrego brothers were something else. They didn’t realize what they were getting into when they met the Brimmage sisters. It was always hilarious when they were all in the same place. Their parents were also a part of the shenanigans.
Chapter 26 was so funny I kept reading it over and over again. I laughed so hard people were looking at me like I was crazy.
I can’t wait until part 2 drops because it’s some things I need to know.....Who’s that???

OK so the book was good. Great stories! But these characters tho! W..E..A..K women!!! I hope next book they boss up on these nxggas! As beautiful and smart as they are they shouldn't take that shxt. I mean these nxggas be straight cockblockn but gettn they dick wet every chapter! The hellllll tho. And who is this lookalike chick!? I knew her getting away from Zo wasn't gone be so easy, but she shouldn't have lied bout some so simple as knowing him. Petty lies cause big problems. Anyway can't wait for part 2👌🏾

Great book

I’m new to this author and I must say I really enjoyed this book....I’m really upset with Dre he doesn’t know what he wants I hope Romi moves on with her life and never take him back he’s really childish and self centered😡 Micah messed up really he and Risa are so good together and my favorite couple Melo and Raquel I love ❤️ them I hope Melo doesn’t hurt her she’s fragile I know she’s the mean sister but she’s not as tough on the inside. We know that Risa has a twin can’t wait for part 2

I'm in it

Can't wait to read the conclusion. I love the family bonds and the ties between the 2 families. My only gripe would be that I want to read about more seasoned couples. These are all children. Yes, love is love, but as an adult, reading about people who've lived a bit more would be nice. This doesn't at all take away from the fact that Johnni can tell a story. The character build ups, the relationships between the characters, and the plot will keep you interested and waiting for more.

So good!

It's so much going on in this book. Romi shouldn't have told Dre the baby wasn't his, it's going to make things even worst. Micah has messed up big time but I want to know who is the chic that look like Raina I bet she's the one who killed Mo. I like Raquel and Melo together he can handle her attitude and get her straight. Dame isn't finished cheat maybe him a baby girl need to chill but I know Dame isn't having that.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I loved the relationship between the brothers and sisters. I also loved how their parents became close with each other. I don’t even understand why Micah did what he did🤦🏾‍♀️ get it together. I feel bad for Romi, but I felt like she should’ve just told Dre the truth. Raina and Damien just need to enjoy college. I like Raquel and Melo together. Hopefully everything works out for Risa. I know she scared, I can’t believe the ending.
