This was a romantic-suspense, but it felt lacking in both areas. The author tried to add too many problems and just odd stuff to have in this genre and book, when so much more interesting things could have been included instead, and it was just off and made the story disjointed.
First was the death of the friend at the beginning. I am totally fine with deaths in books, but I feel like whenever there is one at the beginning, the transition to that and the story is always so underwhelming and the death is always pretty glossed over, no matter how close the person was to the MCs. None of the reactions seemed right, and that goes for pretty much the whole book.
The sexual crap in this book wasn't hot, it probably could have been, but the author tried to make the MCs a bit too promiscuous, such as the H having two girls on call for threesomes for whenever, to the h bringing up how she has experimented with girls a couple times. Also this goes for all the friends too, and their swinger ways, like the two couples trying to invite the MCs in for sex, and having the two women in those relationships sexually being together and making a scene in front of everyone, including the MCs, who apparantly had a big problem being asked to join in, but no problem watching it, and getting off on it. Also, apparently no one can be loyal to their partners either, seeing as everyone was pretty much swingers or cheaters in this book.
Another problem was the dialogue, which was so overdramatic and unrealistic. There was also A LOT of it. I love dialogue in books, especially when there is more than inner dialogue, but when pretty much the entire book is talking, with no facial expressions, no descriptions, and no thoughts at all, it just felt very mechanic.
Lastly was the OW drama. Pretty much the first half of the book, the H isn't over his ex-fiance, and kept repeating that. Most of the time this is annoying unless the author pulls a miracle and just makes it as part of the development of the H. In this there wasn't any development at all, it was he knew he would love the ex always, but he just loved the h, or Gia, more. And of course because this HAS to happen with every book with ex drama, the ex comes back pregnant claiming it is the H's baby, and of course the H, thinking it is the right thing to do, almost picks her because shes preggo, over his gf that he "loves more". And then of course she runs, something happens to her, while the baby turns out not to be his, and the ex turns out to be the one who was terrorizing the h the whole time. When this happened, the book automatically went down a star. It is a terrible concept in romance books, and even more in suspense when so many other things could have happened instead.
Overall, not a great book, and not sure why it only has 4 and 5 stars, which leads me to believe they are all fans or friends of the author. Probably won't be reading this author again.
