The Aether Blade
When the Northern Republic attacks his kingdom, Valx Delgard discovers he is a greatborn, a person born with tremendous power. The seventeen-year-old son of a shopkeeper is forced from his home to travel across the continent of Ter'al. During his journey, Valx will learn to use his powers as he struggles to survive against two greatborn pursuers, a Northern general and his red-masked assassin. Along the way, he finds himself involved with two greatborn thieves and a secret society of criminals that might have a stronger connection to the North than the thieves themselves ever realized.
The Aether Blade is the first book in an epic fantasy series that will send Valx to different lands across the continent of Ter'al. He'll fight dragons, encounter mysterious beings known as strangemen, and also meet other greatborn with incredible and unique abilities. But he will also lose many of the people close to him as a war spreads across Ter'al. As this series unfolds, Valx will find himself pushed to the limits of his powers, but he'll also struggle with his sense of purpose and morality.

Ok
Decent story, the characters weren't that great, the writing not the most polished, but nothing was terrible and the storyline was decent. I would read a sequel but not something I'd be counting the days until it was released. Basic story is town invaded boy orphaned flees with friends discovers powers travels in search of answers. Some pretty good moments along the way no cliffhanger ending but does leave you with some questions to be answered in future books.

good writing but the main character is trash
be ready to be exasperated the entire time. the main character cries and castigates himself for the entire book. the writer tries to write him as a teenager who is growing up through tragedy, but he mainly comes off as a crying mess who thinks he is the reason for everything bad that happens. I gave three star for the writing, which is quite good, as well as the story around the lead

It was an interesting story. I wish the author would have spent more time explaining what type of creatures were what, and who was who. He pulled a lot of my questions together towards the end. If the author spent a little more time expanding on some ideas the book would have been much longer and interesting. Just too many unanswered questions that will probably never be answered.

Great Story
I enjoyed this book and I think anyone who likes fantasy genre books would as well. The plot is complex enough with several plot twists and mystery in past of protagonist to hold interest. I liked the characters, even some of the antagonists, and look forward to a sequel.

Interesting Story - But poorly written
It was an interesting story. However the writing was lacking; poor grammar, sentence composition a 2nd grader could write. The author forgot details like the fact he was riding a horse and the next thing you read he is running from black stone to black stone.

Great book
I really enjoyed the book. Think Xmen set in a fantasy genre type of world. My only complaint is the fight scenes left a lot to be desired. They were not well described and I tended to get confused about what actually happened. I'm looking forward to the next book!

I just cudn't finish the book. the story line was good but the characters are sloppy.. Just read a few chapters and i was done.

Rather simplistic writing, but the story was fun and it was a good read overall.
