How do you become influential? What are the qualities that ensure people are drawn to you? And how do you develop these?Personal experience is the raw material for building executive presence. Viewed as "touchy feely," intangible and invisible, most leaders separate their personal lives from their professional ones. Executive coach Diana Jones argues that this is unwise. In fact, the "soft side" of leadership - empathy, compassion, and authentic communication derived from personal experience - is both powerful and essential to enhancing executive presence, influencing others and achieving results. Through compelling stories and examples from Jones's coaching sessions, readers will learn how to make enduring behavioral changes that will produce better business results and create alignment among disparate groups using empathy and leadership language.
An excellent resource…and a leadership text with no mention of armed forces or sport which is so very refreshing. I particularly liked the framing of leadership around having “executive presence” which is defined as influencing and inspiring through genuine relationships. I also liked behaviour being defined as a combination of how you think, feel and act. It wasn’t directly linked in the text but I thought the description of balancing knowing, and doing, so being also fitted well with this. I use Mehrabian in sessions with leaders and have always struggled to link email communication and now have the perfect segue which is that because only 7% of the message is contained in words, every word chosen is important and in email 100% is conveyed through choice of words and how they are written. Thank you Diana Jones. I have my own default behaviours to work on along with some new tools from you for this; and, you have also helped me to enhance the sessions I have with other leaders. Great read.
This book is amazing. I enjoyed reading it, and there are quotes I totally agree with! I can't say that such a genre is my favorite, but I needed it for my university project. It was dedicated to personal experience, like, in general, and of course, I started looking for something which could be helpful for me. I came across so many resources, sites, exams, and books and decided to read this one. And I also used a lot from https://papersowl.com/examples/personal-experience/ where I was provided different personal experience essay samples, which helped me to "see" what I could write about. Because it's such a general term, and you can write about everything. Very helpful source, and also this book was useful, and I used some quotes from it.
