Absolute Knowledge #2

Absolute Zero (Absolute Knowledge)

Rate this book
The lies and corruption extended further than I could have imagined. My life in Olympus was only getting started, yet I had almost lost everything and everyone I loved. The isolation of Olympus from the rest of the country was staggering, and it made it difficult to comprehend what was happening on the outside when the truth was finally revealed. Everything was falling apart, and nothing was safe from the Omniscience Engine and its sinister force of progress, Infinitum. My name is Jacob Ashton, and this is my story. Absolute Zero is the second novel in the Absolute Knowledge series which takes place in the dying country of New York. The stakes are higher now, and it's impossible to know who can be trusted. Scrambling to find the truth and a weapon against an increasingly malevolent enemy, Baron Jacob Ashton must unite with his allies and face insurmountable danger throughout the different tiers of New York before the whole country collapses from the inside out. In Absolute Zero, everything stops. Absolute Knowledge is a cyberpunk science fiction series of great depth and scope with elements of dystopian science fiction and hard science fiction. Continuing the tradition of cyberpunk authors like William Gibson, Ernest Cline, John Shirley, and Neal Stephenson, this series brings something to the table for everyone.

This second book continues Absolute Knowledge right where it left off, and does it beautifully, knocking the intrigue right out of the park and into action and a very dystopian militaristic world.

From eerie cyberpunk right into androids, mech-suits, and a world that is sliding ever deeper into chaos.

Years pass and we've got old and new MC's just trying to hang on as the absolute AI and the highest caged-prey of humanity lives out their lives in gilded cages.

And yet, through all the hard-scrabble existence and infighting among the last of humanity, big reveals are still coming and the revolution hasn't quite lost all its momentum.

This is a newer age of cyberpunk. Hardcore mil-SF, too. And where the first novel was intrigue, smaller-scale, and rebellion from the inside, this one takes over with action and, ultimately, a very dark turn.

Very enjoyable! Hard-SF for lovers of dystopia, mil-SF, and high-tech, all still based on Earth in the nearish future... so far. :) It comes as a very interesting piece with all the short stories and novellas. The world-building is quite fantastic. :) I recommend those, too.

Ghosts in the Machine

An unforgiving AI is wreaking havoc on the country of New York. It shows no mercy for humanity. People are dying for no good reason except to extract their thoughts for a new race of people. There are the heroes, Jake, Mary, Marwin, and others who surprise the reader as being saviors. It's scary to think that a machine could wield so much power and humans end up being helpless. It's something to think about in the now and near future where AI's are forthcoming.

A but odd, but progressing

More typos and odd phrasing in this one than the first book. Story progressed, but the inconsistent bypass age of time sort of gets to me. We'll see where out ends upon when the third book is ready.

Way to go!

Love Cordell's imaginative take on a wild new future. Every word and action is necessary to move the action along. Very well crafted story. I am eager for the next book.
