From the moment of diagnosis, cancer is a roller-coaster ride of emotions, changing plans and circumstances, as one copes with the pains, problems and challenges of the disease. C is for Courage offers a place to step off of the ride, a portable sanctuary for artful distraction and a platform for quiet contemplation of life in the face of the uncertainties that living with, fighting, and surviving the disease present.
The journal prompts are designed to invite you to write about the practical and emotional aspects of the journey with cancer. The mandalas and abstract patterns offer a means to disengage from concerns and fears and let the mind and senses flow with colors and creative self-discovery.
C is for Courage is a quiet, gentle ally for processing the experience of cancer.
Here's a little bit about me: I'm a writer, director, producer, personal historian, and the owner of Tortoise and Finch Productions, LLC. My documentary film, You Look a Lot Like Me (www.youlookalotlikeme.com), explores the social problem of domestic violence/parter abuse, and is currently used as an informational and training resource in a variety of settings across the U.S., including universities, mental health clinics, libraries, etc.
In May 2017, I released six coloring book journals for adults exploring a variety of topics and experiences, including surviving domestic violence, providing care for an adult loved one, living with cancer or heart disease, and more.
In my earlier days, I held a variety of positions, including waitress, church secretary, appointment setter for an adjustable bed company, and sales representative for mobile medical record filing systems. It was through my work at a hospice that I first became inspired to work as a personal historian. My first job was at a Dunkin' Donuts and I wasn’t very good at it. I can’t remember whether or not I was fired, but feel fairly certain I should have been.
