This book published by the national storytelling association is a collection of essays written by storytellers and educators all over the United States, which makes the book fun to read because there’s a viewpoint for everyone. It is aimed at people who work in schools, featuring chapters such as “The Teacher as Storyteller,” “Stories in the Curriculum,” “Using Stories to Teach ________ [fill in the blank with various subjects—history, science, math, reading, writing:].” Some of the essays are interviews, others are a story with suggested themes or curricular units, and others are thoughtful perspectives on storytelling as an art. The book is probably best used as a reference guide because different pieces may be pertinent at different times. What will be particularly useful to me are the guided lessons and activities to flesh out storytelling programs.
