Life is a journey as a child of God to the eternal embrace of the Father. This book is a collection of 70 poems written by a seminarian that strive to put into words the experiences of God's loving touch in our lives. They are experiences of joy and consolation as well as of darkness and confusion, but always experiences of his love. It is an invitation to read God's loving rhyme in everything as he strives to gently lead us into his arms for all eternity.
This is a great little book by a man who clearly knows his Lord. I found it perfect for moments of reflection. Much like the Psalms, this book is filled with prayers and thoughts that can move out hearts to true prayer when we feel that we're stuck or that we've run out of things to say.
Perhaps it's not the most elevated of modern poetry (thus, the four-star rating), but neither is that the aim of the book. The author does what he set out to do: share simple reflections to draw our hearts a little closer to God. For that reason, I'd call the book a success and highly recommend the read.
Logical motives for the existence of God that appeal to the head remain not utterly lacking in science and literature, but perhaps more persuasive reasons for faith may be discovered in an unlikely setting—within the stirrings of human emotions in the presence of majestic beauty and sublime art. Quailing before a Prime Mover or Uncaused Causer is not an impossibility for a few enlightened minds, but many more previously unsuspecting souls discover themselves on bended knee before the realization that only an Artist could so fade the fiery glowing sun over a tranquil turquoise ocean. The title of Dain Scherber’s short work emphasizes that God is more than an all-powerful rule-maker, He is a creative father on a quest to fascinate and entice each human person with the meaning and beauty that spring from his endearingly persistent and unquenchably personal love. Remarkably crafted, two sets of poetries entwine with in the pages of this charming faith-filled book, the poetry of the author and that of the Creator. The reader feels him or herself restored as if by a gentle refreshing breeze in the desert or as when relaxing in a comfortable armchair by a cozy fireplace—having narrowly escaped a raging snowstorm. Both the poetry and style of ‘God’s Poetic Path’ are free of intricate complexities, yet the book will do wonders for the reader’s soul. Joy, peace, and love are primary fruits that the Holy Spirit produces in the soul of the believer in Jesus, and as I read this book, I felt my spirit uplifted and carried along the path towards heaven—possessing now in the ‘shadowlands’, what I hope to possess in the land beyond the ‘sea’.
This is a very simple, yet deep and interesting piece of work. It certainly may not be the most artful poetry on spiritual topics. I don't think this was the author's intention. Still, especially for the one that personally knows the author, this work is filled with reaches that shine all the more in the simplicity of the lines that present them to the reader's eyes
My kind of poetry actually - spiritual, mostly straightforward, and it rhymes. I felt right at home, especially in the sections Journey and Home At Last. They are heartfelt poems, experiences.
