'Winifred Finlay, born in the north of England to Scottish parents, was brought up on tales and ballads of Scotland's past glories. "All my stories are set in real places," she says, "places which I know well, and revisit, and read about before start to write."'
I've had my copy of this book since I was small, but I never read it until now. I think anyone (big or small) that's interested in Celtic fairytales would enjoy this short read!
Favorite stories: The Five Sisters of Kintail and True Thomas
These are folk tales I'd never heard before, but wished I had. I think they are mostly Scottish, but a few may be English. The writer is Scottish and has a wonderful style that makes you feel you were sitting around a fire a couple hundred years ago listening to her. Here are the story titles: Tattercoats; The Old Handmill; The Five Sisters of Kintail; The Earl of Mar's Daughter; The Three Feathers; Nicht Nought Nothing; The Bird With the Gift of Fire; Whuppity Stoorie; Callaly Castle; Columba and the Water-horse; The Three Golden Heads; The Red Etin; Wee Robin Redbreast; King Arthur and the Shepherd Laddie; and True Thomas.
