Rate this book

I think it can be recommended to anyone who wants to get their first dog. The book gives a relatively good basis for further research. After reading it, you can draw conclusions about whether you need a dog at all, which group to get it from, female or male, and at the same time make an initial list of questions to ask the breeder (or just note for yourself what to pay attention to at the first meeting).

The book does a good job of covering the general nuances of puppies' maturation period and their socialization, as well as the different types of behavior and hierarchical statuses. I liked that in addition to general topics such as training problems or mistakes by owners, it also mentions the ambiguity and confusion in the dog literature and the presence of unscrupulous trainers.

It is important to note that this is NOT a book about training and NOT about how to raise an obedient dog. It is a book about why dogs are the way they are, why they interact with us, and how we should in general interact with them.
