With On An Acre Shy of Eternity, Robert Dash takes nature exploration to new levels. Over a three-year period he traveled from bluff to tree, feather to seed on a near-acre of forest, meadow and cliff shouldering the Salish Sea. Using metaphors, a camera, and a scanning electron microscope, Dash features scales of beauty from craters on the moon to grains of pollen one four-hundredth the width of a pinhead. He looks at the mystery of this land as one might read a book, promoting a visual, poetic, and ecological literacy that he calls "locavore art and ecology"- the art, science and discovery that beckons in one's front yard.
On An Acre Shy of Eternity is a gorgeously photographed window into Robert Dash's backyard on Orcas Island in Washington state. His words and poetry perfectly complement the macro vistas of his home alongside the tiniest details of nature's perfect symmetry, captured using an electron scanning microscope. For anyone in love with the minute details of their home and the tiny worlds that exist beneath your feet, you will so appreciate this beautiful book.
Beautiful coffee table poetry/photography book that examines life through the minuscule magnification of a plot of land on our lovely Orcas Island, WA. Purchased this on my recent travels to Orcas Island at Artworks on the East end of the island to bring WA poetry/photography work to our Washougal HS Library collection. So glad I purchased this lovely book whose poetry is just as elegant and fascinating as the photos.
An exquisite practice of meditating on the immediate. This is a book about the space that is where we are. The "infinite layers." The micro as the macroscopic. Universes are investigated and discussed with educational poetry. A nice representation of the Salish Sea.
