Still dealing with the death of her mother and the void it left in her heart, Megan tries to return to the life she once had. But with her father’s impending marriage to a woman she can’t stand, she’s instead left feeling betrayed and alone. Having no one else to turn to, she seeks solace from her mother in the cemetery.
There she meets David, a beguiling stranger, and finds herself drawn to him as though something has brought them together. Choosing to foster these growing feelings, she continues to see him and with each encounter, her life seems to change for the better.
That is until she starts to notice odd things about him.
When she confronts him, he explains them away, but she can’t bring herself to accept his answers, feeling there’s something more to him than he’s letting on. His roommate, Brian, however, is eager to share the truth with her, but being leery of him and his intentions, she refuses to give in and trusts David will share it with her when he’s ready.
When his secret is finally revealed, she embraces him rather than pushes him away. But Brian is not satisfied, continuing to antagonize her, and she begins to wonder if he has something else planned for her.
Linette Kasper an avid writer of young adult supernatural fantasy, though she likes to dabble in horror. She is currently working on the sequels to her debut novel, Daimon. She enjoys traveling (though she doesn't get to do it often or very far), long walks in old cemeteries, and trying to stop time frame by frame.
Alright, girls. When you meet a hot young man in a graveyard at night, and he gives you a burner phone to communicate with him, what do you do? The answer in real life is RUN, of course, LOL, but in this story it's the beginning of a beautiful romance. :)
Do you love a good, classic, vampire story? I do. I just never get tired of it, and I really enjoyed this book by Linette Kasper. There were elements of this that reminded me of Twilight (though I didn't like Twilight, but I did like this).
I adored Megan. Super smart, a bit of a goody-goody, and bereaved. Her mother died too young, and her father is about to replace her with a woman who is young enough to be his daughter and is only interested in his money. Unfortunately Megan is the only one who sees Vanessa, her wicked step-mother-to-be, for what she is. There was lots of juicy tension, and I enjoyed watching Megan lift her chin and navigate the treacherous situation.
Enter David, a handsome and generous young man with manners from a bygone era who is studying to be a doctor at the local university. (Using eternity to rack up college degrees made WAY more sense to me than going to high-school over and over again. Come on.) Women swoon for him, but men seem to instinctively hate him. Especially Megan's friend Ben, who has had a crush on her since time immemorial. Poor Ben, stuck in that friend zone, he never stood a chance. There's A LOT of kissing that's cut short by--well--David's desire to eat Megan, but hey this is a YA novel. Get you mind out of the gutter. David is also rather naive for a 100+ year old vampire, which was actually rather endearing, even if you're wanting to reach through the pages and shake him sometimes. XD There is a chilling murder mystery woven throughout the book. Study groups, prom, and some bodies in the woods, oh my!
This was great fun! Well-written, and if you have a penchant for YA vampire books you should definitely pick this up.
Personally, all the dudes I met at bars are jerks. Good thing Megan hooks up with David in a cemetery-- wish I would've thought of that-- ah well, the more you know.
From the get-go, Megan is totally digging David... get it? Digging... cemetery... *sigh*
Moving on...
After getting to know him, she notes aspects of his life that simply don't make sense... umm, duh... you met him at a cemetery. But who or what is he?
That's what we'd all like to know, and we find out.
Meanwhile, enter the edgy and I'm-hot-damn-until-you-get-to-really-know-me Brian, who tries his best to cause chaos in the new relationship.
But nothing, and I mean NOTHING is as scary as Megan's potential new step-mother, Vanessa, who slithers her way through Kasper's first novel. Yeesh!
Meticulously edited and masterfully told, 'Daimon' is the debut novel in a young-adult fantasy/romance series. If you enjoy a well-written, mysterious journey, you'll be captivated by Kasper's new novel.
A sweet romance among the tombstones. Megan still grieves the loss of her mother and finds solace in the company of a mysterious young man she meets near her mother’s grave. Handsome David slips into Megan’s life with abiding patience, listening to Megan’s cares while remaining guarded himself. Their growing affection threatens would-be boyfriend, Ben, who desires Megan for himself. But above the teen love triangle, a hidden danger hangs, putting not only the romance at risk, but their lives.
This book has been in my to read section for a while now, and i’m so glad I picked it up. The relationships between characters felt organic and the story kept me interested and wanting more. I found myself reading well into the night compelled to see where the story was going next. Definitely recommend for paranormal romance fans! Can’t wait to read the next one!
By the end of the book, i loved it. The overall idea of the book was clever, suspenseful and intriguing.
The pace of the story can be quite slow at times but in saying that, the author has a way of capturing time and breaking it down into small steps which i found fascinating.
i don't want to spoil the storyline but i loved David. It was a breath of fresh air to have a respectful and kind male figure in a book.
i also love the concept that there is good in everyone, if we give them a chance.
What a delightful paranormal romance! I absolutely loved this book. I enjoyed reading the Twilight series, but often encountered "hang on" moments where something didn't quite work for me. Linette Kasper has provided a most satisfying riposte. What I loved best about this book is the way Kasper engages with how the human brain works when it comes to belief. She perfectly portrays the incongruity of denying an observable truth because one believes it to be impossible. The main character, Megan, spends an inordinate amount of time denying her observations about her new boyfriend, David, and this brings so much to the situation---I absolutely loved it. I also enjoyed Daimon because it engages with the dilemma of other relationships that could be lost, should Megan decide to embrace her love for David. Linette Kasper presents the reader with the true difficulty included in this type of decision. I consider Daimon a masterful piece of fiction and look forward to the next instalment of Megan's adventures.
