Something bad happened. Something she had to run away from. If only she could remember what it was...
A 17-year-old girl wakes up on a beach. Lost, alone, confused... and a little crazy.
She's stuck in werewolf territory--dangerous at the best of times. Without protection, how will she get back to the city she calls home?
Encountering a mysterious pack of werewolves (and a half vampire) is the last thing she needs. No way does she want to be stuck with werewolves on the night of a full moon.
Are the guys going to help her or get in her way?
But there are bigger things at stake. Something strange and unexpected is going on in the world around her.
As if things aren't complicated enough.
Join the romantic adventure and pick up the first book in the Max Pack now, because this is not your typical paranormal romance.
You will get to experience the start of a slow-build reverse harem romance... a romance where the heroine has trouble choosing just one guy.
And enter a paranormal world where humans, vampires, and shifters coexist... a world where there's an unexpected zombie outbreak. There's mystery, intrigue and the promise of magic.
Imagine waking up from a horrible nightmare, naked and alone, washed up on a beach with no clue who you are or how you got there. That's what 'Ida' has to deal with. The first person she sees isn't even a person. She's lost, in need of all kinds of help, slightly crazy and has no clue who to trust. Pretty much, she's screwed! So when she stumbles upon a pack of werewolves she kinda doesn't have any other choice but to accept the help they are offering. As bits and pieces of her memory come back she tries to keep all her secrets hidden. Her werewolves have secrets too though.
I enjoyed the start to this series. So far we have werewolves, vampires, zombies (which I really hate but they aren't that bad here) and talk of magic. We are in the middle of the forest on this one but the city she left behind has compounds and blood camps. You get the impression that vampires are in charge. 'Ida' is special although we aren't sure how she's special just yet.
I really think it's going to be a good series and I'm excited about reading the next one. There were some spelling and grammar errors but not enough to take away from the story. There was a good bit of action and some mystery. No sexy time in this one but lots of flirting and some connections being made. So I say give this one a go if you like your paranormal RH. Could be one of your new favorite series.
Werewolves and vampires and zombies, oh my! Werewolves and vampires and zombies. Runaway by Rachel Brockhart is full of the paranormal. It's a world where humans, werewolves, and vampires all live together in different zones, co-existing to a certain extent. But now there is the threat of a zombie outbreak. A young girl wakes up on a beach with no memory and no clothes. She does have a nasty voice talking in her head and a zombie about to attack. After killing the zombie she takes off from the beach and runs across a beautiful man, Dex, bathing. While trying to go through his supplies, she soon finds herself his captive or is he her rescuer? He is joined by his two pack mates, the energetic Blaze and the mysterious Vishen. They start to take her to a human zone, but after an order from their Alpha Luca take her home with them despite the danger of the full moon. At their hideout, we meet the final pack mates, Kevin and Takoshi, a half-vampire/half werewolf doctor.
This was a very promising start to a new series. There is so much mystery to be explored. This pack has secrets and special abilities. Ida/Maxine is one big mystery; where did her memories go, who is the voice in her head, where does the magic in her blood come from, what is she? The characters are intriguing. Is it a coincidence that she ended up with Luca? I loved the guys. I must have flip-flopped a dozen times about my favorite. Dex is so protective, Luca is familiar, but there's just something about Vishen. I'm not sure what to think about Max yet. Her inner nature seems to be kind, but that voice is definitely not.
The book could have benefitted from some more editing, but the errors are not too distracting. It was defintely entertaining. I am hooked. Max feels a connection to the pack. They want her to stay. I want to see them get close. I want to know about Max's past and learn everyone's secret. I can't wait until book 2.
If you are into dystopian slow burn reverse harem teen paranormal romances then this first book in the series is going to be at least a four for you. I don't love dystopian so I took out a star. I also took out a star because even with the paranormal stuff to sort of explain it away I hate it when the characters meet and are instantly taken/bonded/mine/in love sort of thing. When it's less than twenty four hours and they are already risking their lives with no justification it's just irrational. Vampires and werewolves, totes rational, instabond, not so much.
This is a very short read, so much so that it kind of feels like the mid point of most other YA/NA novels. You have the climax and resolution of a dangerous situation coupled with a cliffhanger of danger to come, but it really feels like the danger to come should be the midway point.
It's reasonable, albeit, short intro book. It could do with some additional character development to make the relationships feel less forced and to flush out the book a little more to make it meatier, but worth the read for anyone who is interested in these genres.
Summary: Girl wakes up on a beach with no memory of who she is but some idea of what happened to her. She gets caught by a werewolf pack and it becomes obvious she is not your average human. I thought this was a really strong start to what I believe will be an awesome series. What kept me reading was wanting to find out who the MC was, where she came from, and who is she really. You can tell the author built this world quite a bit, and I love it. I'm a huge fan of world building, and the author reveals the world around us in such an awesome way instead of doing "word throw-up". I thought character description could have gone into a little more detail, character description meaning appearance. This probably petty: I WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE CHARACTERS! 😢 I'm sure the author will undoubtedly go into detail in future books, but I want to know everything RIGHT NOW!!! Overall, I would definitely recommend this book as a good RH series.
I had a very hard time getting into this book. A girl wakes up on a beach naked. She doesn't really have a clue what is going on. There are zombies she calls rotters. She also has a voice that talks in her head, giving her advice. She also uses the word frill. This took me way too long to figure out that the author substituted the word frill for fuck. I was super confused for about 20 pages before I figured it out. The author has no problem with any other cuss word. Anyway, she happens upon a werewolf who has 2 werewolf friends near by. The story goes on from there to skip any spoilers but in the end nothing really happens and you have almost as many questions as you did when you started the book. I have no desire to continue with the story.
I loved the idea and plot of this book. I am intrigued by all of it really. I just don't understand how there are so many errors! Syntax errors, so many spelling errors, random words just dropped or written half-way, and so many punctuation errors. I don't believe this book has seen even one round of edits. Also, the protagonist is surrounded by men, but some of them seem too childish to be believable. Of course I understand they are mythical creatures, but some of their mannerisms were very off-putting. Sometimes, mid-conversation, the characters would just blurt out random things that didn't make sense based on the flow of this conversation.
Would I recommend this book? Probably not until it received a good edit.
So our main heroine wakes up on the beach, naked, with only some snippets of what happened to her. She doesn't know her name, or where exactly she came from. She just knows that she's human and she's on the run. While running naked through the forest, she encounters a group of werewolves. They say that they want to keep her safe, but with no memory, she's not sure if she can trust them.
A great beginning for the series, in my opinion. I got hooked on all the mystery surrounding the MC. Having read the book, things did not get any clearer for me. But I'm still intrigued enough to want to read the next book.
I enjoyed reading this supernatural blend with zombies, a.k.a. "Rotter's"_thrown in. Its one of those reads that will kill you unless the complete series is out so you may just want to add this one to one of your lists. I do recommend not skipping over it because its got everything your looking for, romance, tension, adventure, mystery, paranormals, a very original and imaginative world, and leaves you wanting more. The writing is perfect as well. What more could you ask for except for book two?
Just finished runaway. It was a good read and I didn't want to put it down, I just wanted to see what would happen next. The character development is good and the storyline is a fresh new take on the paranormal. I highly recommend this book. Some minor editing errors but that's more than ok and doesn't take away from the book unless you are completely anal and are unable to enjoy a book for what it is.
Let me be honest this book was good. I enjoyed reading it and will read it again before the next one comes out.I hate cliffhangers, anyone who has read my reviews where a book has a major cliffhanger can tell you this. The characters are good, and I believe that we will get more development out of them through the series. I wish that we had learned a little more, but I look forward to seeing the series progress.
I really enjoyed reading Max's story. It is very well written, which is unfortunately not the norm for rh stories. The storyline and the characters are great and I was so engrossed in it - I could barely put my kindle down :) Too bad that I need to wait for the continuation. This is part of my 4-star-rating: I didn't give it all stars because for me it is a little expensive for less than 200 pages and that voice in her head was SO confusing.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I liked the story and all of the characters. The reason for the 3⭐️, it's like the author forgot to finish the book. Like she was in mid thought and stopped. I know some authors do that now to build suspense for the next book, but all it did was annoy me. It wasn't even a cliff hanger. It literally just cut off in the middle of a paragraph.
Liked it so far! Definitely want to read more, so far the guys seems alright but I don't think their bounty hunters but who knows, I like them but scary to know Maxine was imprisoned! Who is she? And what about the voice in her head, is that her wolf but can she be changed? I don't jnow
There wasn't much of a story beyond her with no memories, a pack of werewolves and the unsolved questions. I'll probably get the next book just to find out more of the world
I'm not picky but the author doesn't know how to use commas-not even close. The story was a little slow but I finally was getting into it and it ended. It ended in the middle of the story...there is a second part coming or something but not sure it's even worth it.
Really interesting concept but there's a lot about the world that I still don't understand/find confusing. I also find the narrative style and the MC's voice a bit jarring/annoying. I'll probably give the series a second chance and read book 2 to see what happens next.
I enjoyed this story. It is short so know that. Iy took me about two hours to read. But dont let that keep you from the book especially if you have kindle unlimited. Im very interested in what these characters have in store for there future
Loved the fact it had rotters (zombies), werewolves, and vampires. "Ida" is a mystery in herself. Then there is Thorne and Luca, talk about family drama.
Yes the book is a slow burn, but it has a lot of potential to be something totally hot.
This was a really small book and not much really happened until the very end. The story was alright but pretty basic. I did like how there was zombies, never read one of those before but it did get kinda flat.
I have mixed feelings with this book. It was a quick read but I felt like it gave u the bare minimum to keep you hooked on it then when it finally gives you something to go off of it's on to book two.
What a dramatic book! I was confused as much as the main character at first! When does the next book come out? I can not wait to see what happens next?!
