An Historical Evaluation of Thomas Hardy's Poetry

Rate this book
An anthology of 25 essays on British novelist and poet Hardy's (1840-1928) poetry, ranging from Edmund Grosse's 1918 "Mr Hardy's Lyrical Poems," to Joseph Brodsky's 1998 "Wooing the Inanimate." Other well known contributors include T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, W. H. Auden, and John Crowe Ransome. Together they not only reflect the diverse nature of the poetry, but also demonstrate how critics of different periods had added to the understanding and appreciation of them. Some deal with his relationship to other poets like Wordsworth, Yeats, and Larkin. The text is double spaced. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
