Spark scientific curiosity in kids of all ages! Learn about some of the most fundamental concepts in science BEFORE the social pressure and intimidation of formal schooling sets in. This light-hearted, scientifically accurate book turns Chemistry 101 into a delightful tale of universal friendship! Learn the basics of chemistry using simple rhyming sentences, vibrantly colorful science pictures, and engaging, energetic characters. You'll learn about the structure of an atom; protons, neutrons, and electrons; charge and mass properties; molecules and compounds; covalent and ionic bonds; the periodic table; and so much more. The creator of the “My First Science Textbook” series is a long-time chemistry teacher. He noticed that, no matter the age of his students, they all faced similar difficulties – mainly, the perception of science and chemistry as intimidating. This inspired him to find a fun and memorable way to introduce young people to some of the most fundamental concepts in science. Follow Pete the Proton, Ned the Neutron, and Ellie the Electron, who get together to build everything in the universe. Let your imagination roam while you and your kiddo ponder what's it like to live inside an atom! Lexile AD790L
Good introductory science book which uses cute rhymes to tell the story. My only complaint was they wrote the word electron in yellow ink and several times on light colored pages which make the word hard to read.
Tells us that atoms make up everything from trees to giraffes. To make an atom you start with protons and neutrons and sprinkle in electrons. Strong force holds the nucleus together while electrons race around. Atoms are mostly empty space. Electrons are for sharing and taking. Shows Covalent Bond and Iconic Bond. When atoms look and act the same they are called elements and each have names and each go on the periodic table. Shows us a square from the periodic table and shows us the atomic number (the number of protons) the chemical symbol, the name and the atomic mass (the numbers of protons and neutrons). It explains that these particles are the same on earth as they are on Mars. and that atoms compose everything.
This book describes atoms and all the things they can do. It uses bright and clear illustrations to help get its point across. I especially enjoyed the way it characterized the atoms with little ace and expressions to help show the chemical reactions and processes that took place. As someone who really struggled in chemistry, I was pleased to find that this is a great intro and building block for any young scientists. I always liked science when I was young and I do think I would have done better in late grade levels had I been introduced to the concepts at an earlier age. I guess I'll never know but I refuse to make the same mistake with my future students. This beginner's guide to atoms would be a wonderful addition to any bookshelf.
Atoms / Los átomos (My First Science Textbook) (Spanish Edition)
Atoms/Los atmos is about what builds everything like the air, this book, hands and animals. The book talks about atoms, protons, neurons and electrons. It is for school age children but great for adults also. The book is written in English and Spanish. These is a glossary in both languages in the back of the book. On the back cover of the book:"Atoms are the essential building blocks for everything in the universe. From the water you drink, to the hair on your head, and the book in your hands-they're all made out of the exact same atoms." I suggest parents or grandparents read with their kids. I won a complimentary copy from LibraryThing. The opinions are my own. I gave it a 4 star rating.
This book introduces atoms, how they are structured, how they bond, and the Periodic Table and how it is ordered. All presented in vivid colored drawing and bilingually in English and Spanish. My 7-year-old stayed engaged and the glossary at the end helped us to discuss further after reading this book together. I also have to note that the short, concise wording and descriptions are perfect for a young attention span. I couldn't see a reason to give this book less than 5 stars.
This book is very informative and interesting to read on the little universe of atoms, the protons, neutrons and electrons that make up everything. The illustrations are simple and have a nice coloring to look at. I think a child would be intrigued also not just in what they see, but all the science packed into it. Overall, it’s a well-drawn, well written educational childrens book.
An absolute fun book to read to your children; great for older children and adults as well. Basic science concepts made fun and informative. My children enjoyed this book.
Great bilingual book that introduces the concept of atoms to early readers. It is done in simple language without but using the science terms. The translation is well done, in my opinion only one page merits a better translation (p. 13). Overall, I love these bilingual books.
