Presents speeches by various African American religious and political leaders from the days of slavery to the present, along with biographical information and historical background
While this book could use an update from the last 30-40 years, the layout worked well for the book. Divided into chapters based on the historic era, each one had four to six speeches with a short biography of the speaker. Of the speeches in the book, I had only read one before although I had seen others by these same speakers, which I liked. It makes me wish I was still teaching American Literature as I had a speech unit with rhetorical analysis, and some would have made great options.
