Love 101 #3

Summer Fling

Rate this book
J. Nichole’s third Love 101 romance joins rising junior Laila Jackson as she tries to move forward from a wrecked relationship.

Laila doesn’t understand the reason behind her breakup with her boyfriend, Chris Clark. She truly, deeply loved Chris, and he left her with no explanation. She is hurt, confused, and humiliated. Her friends advise her to stay single for a while.

That’s easier said than done. Laila thought she would be too busy working at a summer internship for the What’s Happening Jacksonville magazine to meet any men, but she meets two almost immediately. Isaiah is an old acquaintance and alum of Laila’s school, Lee University. Dante is a football star with a flair for the dramatic.

Laila’s also still thinking about Josh. During sophomore year, he told her he wanted to be in a relationship. Laila knew it wasn’t fair to either of them to make Josh a rebound from Chris, but she still has deep feelings for him.

As Laila tries to decide between three different men, Chris comes back into the picture. Can Laila get closure from their painful breakup, or does Chris have one more surprise in store for her?

Laila is impossibly naive and it's hard to get past at times. I did like that she's attempting to move on from Chris, yet without the reason he broke things off, she just can't fully let go.

I like the summer internship she has. I'm sure it takes a lot to be a true journalist and although her personal life is a mess, she seems to be good at writing articles and such. The whole Dante thing was a bit much; you interview a hot young football star, then just let him kiss you deeply while feeling under your shirt...in public🤨. A bit much. I like that he apologized for the negative headline from that kiss and seemed like a really cool guy. Neither of them were in a head space to give each other undivided attention and I'm glad they were upfront and honest about still being hung up on their exes.

I thought Isaiah was going to be this fun guy, in which he kind of seemed to be, yet the way he dipped after the Dante debacle would've had me cut him off completely. He, too, seemed like a cool laid back guy and didn't want no parts in drama, which I totally understand, yet it wasn't Laila's fault Dante did what he did🤷🏾‍♀️. I think they would've hit it off better if he'd stuck around rather than running off, then tried to creep back in at the last minute before she was to leave back to school. His loss.

I really wish Josh would move on. He's going to be left in the cold, after he's laid out this stellar pipe for Laila😜, giving her all this attention and affection and she's still not over Chris. I get that Josh has wanted her for a while, yet he seems like a wonderful catch and I hope he finds the woman deserving of him soon. Laila isn't it🤷🏾‍♀️😏.

Chris should've been upfront with Laila from the beginning. I figured his reasoning was why he'd broke up with her, yet like she said, they could've figured it out together had he talked to her. I hope that if she does give him another chance, that she lets him prove himself worthy bc that was foul.

I am loving the progression happening when it comes to their, her roommates and best friend Tanyas', college experience. The whole shooting situation is unfortunate, yet I'm glad the author included the march and how the students came together to protest.

As I previously stated, I'm not 100% team Chris, yet I have a feeling they're about to be back together 😒. Let's see how this all wraps up in book 4, Grown and Sexy Senior.

Good read.

Flustered..Frustrated…& Annoyed

“Summer Fling (Love 101 - Book 3) was a mediocre read. Okay, three books into this “love series” I’m flustered by & with Laila’s indecisiveness and naïve. Thereafter, once again Chris’ explanation/justification for his sudden breakup with Laila still makes no sense. …furthermore, I’ll reiterate nope, I DO NOT trust Chris! …Flustered..Frustrated…& Annoyed. I need closure from this series, Laila’s collection of boy-toys with benefits and the “Chris storyline etc. 🤔🤨‼️

Saddened

I hesitate to say anything negative about the book because it was well written and touched on heavy points without being preachy. But I feel in the romance area the author reverted by to tried and true cliches of “romance” novels. Hoping the wrap up surprise and not disappoint.
