"I love writing fiction - it's the perfect occupation for someone who can't decide what they want to be when they grow up. With each new story, I get to explore a new world."

Vanessa Grant's love affair with writing fiction began during a protracted illness at the age of 12 when she decided to write a novel of her own, sitting up in bed using the typewriter she'd been given for her birthday. Not a computer, not an electric typewriter, but a then-state-of-the-art manual typewriter. The story ground to a halt on page 50 but Vanessa never forgot the excitement of bringing her own characters to life.

In 1985 Vanessa's novel Pacific Disturbance was published in hardcover by Mills and Boon. She now has over 10 million books sold and has been translated into 15 languages. She also has written what one critic described as, "by far the best writing book I've ever read." Writing Romance, published by Self Counsel Press, won the Under the Covers Best Writing Book Award, and is currently in its third edition.

Over the years her love of storytelling and curiosity about people led Vanessa to study psychology, volunteer on a crisis line, complete individual and relationship counselor training, volunteer as a peer counselor for a family life organization, and tell stories about life, love, and secrets. Vanessa is also a university professor, a publisher of educational materials and eBooks, and has given workshops to writers' groups in Australia, New Zealand, the USA and Canada.

Vanessa and her husband live on Vancouver Island in the Pacific Northwest with their two Australian Shepherd dogs.

I loved this book. It made me cry and it was just good. The Hero and heroine grew up together. He was older and he did have many girlfriends. When she was 20 her Father died and the hero says we might as well marry. She loved him so she did. The night they were married he put her in a separate room. She went to him and begged him to love her and they consummated the marriage. She told him she loved him but he didn't say it back. He got a call and was off to Africa the next day without even thinking about her. She realized then it was going to be like her life before, always alone. Plus she knew he didn't love her. She ran away and it's been seven years. He sees her in a mall and he finds out he had a daughter and he wants a family. Heroine just made me crazy. Her back and forth just drove me nuts. Both of them were celibate during separation. He was with other women when she was like eight until twenty. But He was so much older and he didn't love her not even when she was twenty. but he did love her and just wouldn't admit it. I cried and I really thought it was an awesome book. Not smutty and more fade to black scenes but it was romantic. Old school for sure.

The blurb at the back of the book sucked me in right away. I was expecting a lot from the book even the reviews were not so favorable. I am glad I ignored the reviews and trusted my instinct. This was such a wonderful, heart wrenching story of two people who had always been in love. It was very well written, tugged the strings of my heart all right. There were times specially towards the end when I wanted to shake Dixie till she came to her senses and realized how much Connor loved her even though he never said the words to her. I understood her fears, her insecurities yet wanted her to that that leap of faith.

Connor was this awesome hero. I fell in love with him instantly. Not much of a talker but his actions spoke volumes, specially the way he cared about Dixie right from the very start was endearing. Connor's definitely one of my favorite heroes.

If you do come across this book and are wondering if you should read it, I would suggest you do because this was almost perfect.

I thought they were kind of dull. I didn’t feel any sparks between the two and execution of such past recollection wasn’t written near intriguing. It wasn’t long, but it felt long and boring. As it only seemed to prove that MC were without much love or chemistry. Dnf.

Love books wherin they've known each other from childhood. Cant say I'm a big fan of secret baby books. Ending could have been a wee bit more fleshier. Otherwise was an OK read.
