Once again Bonnie Paulson has pulled it out of the bag. Just when you think she can't write anything better than the last, she manages to prove you wrong! Having experienced Maverick throughout the Montana Trails series, I will admit he simply wasn't a character I had much love for but in this, his own story of finding love, well, he stole my heart along with Morgan's!
Maverick is the son of a Salish elder who is bound to keep the traditions of the tribe by agreeing to an arranged marriage to keep the bloodline's 'pure'. He is a man who has lost his heart to another, Sherri (see previous Trails instalments!), the best friend of his sister but who spurned him as she found her own true love. He is a man broken and dying inside who believe he will never have the happily ever after he craves as he watches those around him find their one true love.
Morgan is a woman lost and hurt. She too is someone who believes that honour and sacrifice must come first and is desperately trying to 'make amends'. Their chance encounter at a bar leads these two on a journey of self discovery, acceptance, love and above all honour and duty. I simply loved how Bonnie wrote this emotional roller coaster of a story and had us wondering if in fact honour and duty would actually override love. It's not a straight forward romance and there are some bumps in the road that leaves us guess whether these two will actually give up their own past 'lost loves' for the what the future promises.
Once again, Bonnie has us engaged with the Montana Trails characters and cheering how she skilfully manoeuvres hearts so you will only want to come back for more. This one is once again stand alone but I would highly recommend that you read all the previous seven as it will give you a better understanding of all that has gone on before.
The end is in sight for this series and I for one will be sad that we leave this 'family' but I know Bonnie will leave us in no doubt how this whole story ends and as always, satisfied in all she brings. I can't wait for the next Montana Trail - Book Nine, Lost Trails!
Yes – this is book 8 of the Montana Trails Series. AND YES – you really need to read this series in order!!! I hate to keep saying the same thing over and over, but there is a reason for that. The reasoning for this is that things have happened in the previous books that will help make sense of what is happening in your current book. The stories flow together and they will make a whole lot more sense to you that way!!! When Maverick realizes that the women that he has loved forever is in love with someone else, he is heart broken. Then his father tells him that he has an arranged marriage and it is time to go get his bride. The night before the ceremony, he happens to meet Morgan and they spend the evening talking. I don’t write spoilers – but the way that things turn out will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is one of those books that will have you laughing one minute and almost crying the next.
Maverick has loved Sherri since he first saw her, but she sees him as a brother, not marriage material. He finally decides to follow the family/tribal tradition and accept an arranged marriage. He meets Morgan the day before he is to be matched with a wife. He asks Morgan to cut his hair, a sign of mourning his loss of Sherri, who is engaged to marry another man. Morgan wants a one-night stand with Maverick, who she had nicknamed Bear, but he falls asleep before they can consummate their night together. The next day, at the matching, Maverick and Morgan are shocked when they are matched and are married that day. The rest of this story is about their struggle to decide whether they want to make their marriage a forever match, in spite of the fact that Morgan is pregnant with another man's child. The struggles the whole family faces, along with the return of cousin Ruby, are what make this book completely intriguing. I heartily recommend this book to all who appreciate family ties.
What happens when two people who are forced by their families into a loveless marriage only to find their happily ever after? This is the story behind Bonnie R. Paulson’s 8th book in the Montana Trails Series called Lonesome Trails. Maverick is being forced to marry according to Salish tradition, while Morgan has been kicked out of her family for an unwanted pregnancy. The night before the matching ceremony Maverick and Morgan spent the night talking of their lives, what they would like their future to be, thinking that they wouldn’t see each other again or be matched the next day. Fate stepped in and the two were matched. Knowing the marriage was temporary they guarded their hearts until they couldn’t. The journey from duty to love is full of trials and errors, but what comes out of it is worth the prize.
I've only read a couple of the books from this series, but this is my favorite so far. There's so much emotion in this book that you can't help but connect with Maverick and Morgan. All they want is to be happy, to have someone choose them first, but they're both scared, and defensive, and protecting themselves. This leads to a lot of misunderstandings and hurt feelings. There were several scenes in this book that had me nearly in tears and others that had me laughing out loud. To say the book took me on an emotional roller-coaster is a bit of an understatement, but I loved every joyous high and angst-y low. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
This was a sweet, well-written book. Morgan agrees to an arranged marriage to restore some of the honor lost to her family by some of her past actions. Maverick loses the woman he loves and agrees to a marriage arranged by his tribe and his family. I liked reading about Morgan and Maverick and how they opened up to each other. This book can be read as a standalone story, though it is #8 in the Montana Trails series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series as well as others by this author.
We finally get MT's (Rachiah's brother) story! From the beginning, I liked Morgans spunk. Like her, though, I wasn't sure of Mt's reaction either. He can be so bent on honoring the family, except of course where Sherri was concerned. With this one, it's not so much the social situation that Maverick (MT) and Morgan are caught up in as it is the importance of honesty. If you like MT or want to see him finally get bit, this is one for you.
This is the most romantic and heartwarming story of the series, which was very surprising considering I never expected to like MT. But after meeting Morgan his whole demeanor changes, he turns into a likeable person. Morgan is sweet, caring, lonely, vulnerable and afraid. She's just what MT needed, and they're a special couple and I loved their story. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
This is one of my favorites. I like books by this author and she is one that I keep her books. Sometimes I choose books, read and delete. She is one of my favorite authors. I like the traditions in this family and the immediate connection between Maverick and his arranged marriage to his wife.
Yet another fantastic read. I know it’s a good book when I can’t put it down and my housework doesn’t get done. Maverick and Morgan’s story made me feel that it is possible to make a relationship work when there is a connection and a choice. It’s about family being so much more than blood and I can relate to that as I have both biological and non biological grandchildren and I love them all.
Another great book in this series of The Trails. Maverick a young salish man and native was in love with Stephanie who was in love with her brother in law Drake. Stephanie had made arrangements for her wedding to Drake before the season for busy and Maverick had gone to the site for his arranged marriage. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Family traditions, arranged marriages and secrets make this a great story line. The characters have strong beliefs and a growing attraction for one another. Once the secret surfaces, will they be able to overcome it. Loved this book and this series. Terrific read!
Morgan has a story that is so interesting. Being a disobedient Salish female has comprised her with her family. Will Maverick coming in her life make a difference. Read to see how her story unfolds.
I enjoyed reading this book in the series about two people who are hurting over their pasts. Will they find their happily ever after? I shall be somewhat saddened when finishing this series. It has been a good ride.
Two heartbroken people, Morgan and Maverick, find their way together, despite their broken hearts and insecurities. I enjoyed this installment of this series and am glad to have finally gotten to know Maverick.
This was a great story from start to finish. I enjoyed the characters and families in it also. There was alot of emotions and trust issues. I hope you will read this and enjoy as much as I did.
These stories are impossible to stop reading. I liked Maverick’s story best in this series. In each book you meet new characters, along with all the previous characters you have read about.
Great book Bonnie Paulson. Maverick and Morgan were great characters and I am so glad they found each other. Patrick's parents turned out to be very supportive.
These books are great! I can't stop reading them. The characters come alive and you find a smile on your face and tears in your eyes. Well done! Great read.
I enjoy her stories and plan to read the entire series, but I wish these books were better edited, sometimes I have to stop to figure out what was meant. Butt spell check does knot always work.
