It's no secret, I discovered breast cancer at the very early stages.A strong message for the world, honestly describing how indiscriminate and cruelly it creeps into your life and takes over.By sheer determination, I was able to nip this bugger in the bud.I share my frustrations, highs and lows and vulnerability as the patient with an insight into feelings of vulnerability and exposure. As a nation, illness can throw people together from all walks of life.I speak my mind in your language, honest, hilarious and cheeky to give you comfort, laughter and strength.Keep winning!
A book about someone’s experience with cancer is a scary book to read. We’d all rather avoid thinking about the “Big C.” But VJ Norton’s story about her bout with breast cancer is a survivor’s story offering hope and encouragement. The reader gets to learn about her life before the diagnosis and then follow her through the difficult aftermath of breaking the news to her family and subsequent treatment. She writes of the good: the skilled doctors/surgeons who saved her life and the camaraderie of other women going through cancer treatment at the same time (same path, different shoes). And, she writes of the not-so-good: nurses who didn’t understand how much the little things matter to a patient who is helpless and feeling powerless.
Norton is in the UK, and it was interesting for me, an American, to get a glimpse into the British health care system. There were differences and similarities, but her experience in general was one we call relate to.
