When a body washes up on the shores of Willow Bay, Jason and Angela find themselves as the main suspects. After all, they did have a confrontation with the victim just the night before.
Deciding that she's not going to sit around and wait to be arrested, Angela decides to take matters into her own hands and investigate the death herself. After all, it turns out she has a bit of a knack at investigation.
But with a myriad of suspects, Angela quickly finds that finding the murderer is far from easy. Add to that an investigation into animal smuggling, and Bee trying to stop Angela from adopting out the growing kittens, and Angela quickly finds that she's got her hands full.
Will Angela be able to keep it together for long enough to find the murderer without ending up as the next victim?
Sleeping with the Fishes is the sixth book in the Willow Bay Witches series of paranormal cozy mysteries. It's a full-length novel full of funny and sarcastic best friends, a touch of magic, a snarky talking cat and a little bit of romance.
Samantha Silver lives in British Columbia, Canada, along with her husband and seventeen-year-old dog named Terra.
When she's not writing cozy mysteries, Samantha loves travelling (she's most recently been to Egypt, Jordan and Florida) skiing, eating Dairy Queen, and complaining about how hard running is.
You're 'aving a giraffe!! Would have been a better title!!
Spoiler alert.. I don't tell you who but the plots laid out..
We're now dealing with a Molotov cocktail at the veterinary practice and while Angela catches Matt Smith red handed there's nothing Chief Gary can do even when Matt threatens her. First giraffe!
The following morning, after taking charge of a smuggled giraffe (second, more literal, giraffe!) from a petrified young girl who only tells them her father bought it, and walking it through Willow Bay to reach the stables (which I am fairly sure have moved from behind the clinic to behind the house at some random point), a body is found on the beach; has a bullet in its head and just happens to be one Matt Smith.. so the obvious suspects are Angela and Jason.. again. Third giraffe!
Trying to establish the truth about the giraffes mother and home, Angela and Sophie get into trouble at the farm the giraffe had been smuggled to.. a chat with some smuggled birds (giraffe four!) helps but Angela injures herself and is caught by the "farmer", the birds Angela releases save the day and Sophie's crazy driving enables them to escape. What is missing is how the guy didn't know where it was considering she'd walked it down Main Street.. hardly a secret. Giraffe five!
Still trying to find Matt's killer and clear their names when Chief Gary has never for a moment actually considered either of them could be guilty. Angela confronts the killer, yes she guessed who from pretty much nothing, giraffe six, and has to save Jason's life with magic. Here comes the witches council punishment after a, giraffe seven, unbelievable conversation.
Department of Wildlife and Fisheries really don't appear to be that bothered by the smuggling but ship giraffe straight back to Africa, return parrots to Australia and leave kea to heal. Angela says come back in a few days and I will tell you about the rest.. I don't think that is how it goes!! Multiple giraffes!!
For those not in the know try Cockney rhyming slang.. giraffe = laugh.. I don't think it's particularly funny just so bad it's laughable.
If Silver slowed down, kept notes on her series and referred to them, stopped trying to be snarky because she's just not (please be you instead of trying to be Lee/Hart, got a professional proofreader and editor, and actually thought about her storyline and it's development her ideas could be turned around into much better novels but she's churning out mediocre books instead. Potential lost. I'd rather wait and have a great book than have half the wait and a disappointment. I was told that they improve radically and too keep going but that is not my experience so far. I want them to get better I need to read and I love the genre.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
This is an entertaining supernatural cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and a fun and entertaining storyline. A young woman who is a veterinarian in a small town in Oregon. She happens to be a witch with a special power. She can talk to animals and she also happens to be the town veterinarian. Along with her sister a medical student who is also a witch and her best friend and her boyfriend who is a local reporter. She seems to have a knack for solving murder mysteries and crimes. Read on and see how with the help of her friends and occasionally The animals she happens to talk to find the clues and solves crimes. Check it out
Not for just the young I'm really old and am ready for the next one thank you.

If you love paranormal cozy mysteries and animals this is the series for you. Silver is able to create endearing characters of believable people and animals. These books are an adventure for the imagination, and are most enjoyable.
Everyone should read this book . It made me laugh it made me cry. I enjoyed the story the chapters the plot everything. I want to read every thing this author writes
A man's body washes up on Willow Bays beach, it just happens it's the same man Angela has had an heated argument with the day before. Angela and Jason become the main suspects.
The book itself was good. However, at one point the timeline is so messed up it does not make sense! If the book had been proofread this huge mistake could have been prevented. How has no one complained about this before??
Angela is a vet who talks to animals and animals can be hilarious. Her cat wants to take over the human world. This book and series has complex well written mysteries that are fun and interesting. I can't get enough of the series and looking forward to reading more Samantha Silver books.
I was relieved to have the ongoing issue with Matt resolved. I had wondered how Jason was going to learn the truth. I loved watching Bee and the Beehive.
Great story line and easy reads. Love the characters and the stories. They made clear pictures in my mind. I felt I was in their town. Can’t wait to read more
Please, please let's stop having the protagonist be the suspect. It's been done and done and done. It really interferes with the intellectual enjoyment of the mystery. Since the main character is emotionally involved so is the reader, in an unpleasant way. And, uh giraffes are not "desert mammals". Per Wikipedia, they are native to wooded and riparian savannas.
Otherwise the story does get better and I was engaged toward the end.
