FOR WHO Those who are almost done learning N3 (pre intermediate Japanese).
AIM Reading practice.
HOW I FOUND IT I learnt about this book in GenkiJACS school. We read one of the chapters in class, and I decided to buy the book and read the rest on my own.
HOW TO STUDY Ideally with a teacher. But you can still manage to read the main reading exercises and benefit from them alone.
TRANSLATION There's nothing except JAPANESE in this book.
______
ABOUT THE BOOK:
This book contains 12 chapters, and each chapter has a page-long reading exercise, vocabulary list, and quite a few discussion questions. It's suitable for people who are almost done studying N3 Japanese and before they start N2 Japanese.
However, the book doesn't contain any english at all. This is a good thing (good reading practice) and a bad thing (you might misunderstand the meaning) at the same time. So get ready to get some intense research for translation of words and sentences done.
Because of that, and the fact there are a lot of discussion questions that require a lot of proper grammar/vocabulary usage, I think this book is better to be studied with a teacher (so you wouldn't end up guessing the meaning of sentences wrong).
I personally read the book alone without a teacher.. but I couldn't really answer the questions, as my answers will probably require correction and I'd rather not end up memorizing wrong answers/meanings. I think you'll get better use of the book if you had someone explaining the sentences to you and correcting your answers.. having a conversation flowing will benefit you greatly while learning from this book.
Also some questions require a CD which isn't attached with the book.. you have to get it separately (I don't own it).
Overall, I enjoyed this book. And I do recommend it if you want to practice reading in Japanese.
