Excerpt from The Origin of Certain Place Names in the United States
Sir: I transmit herewith a bulletin on the origin of place names in the United States. This is a second edition of Bulletin No. 197. The material has been compiled from various sources, printed and manuscript, as set forth in the introduction. I think this work will be of great interest as embodying much local and general history.

This is an amazing book that tells you why places are named what they're named in the United States. There's no muss and fuss and a lot of useless words, but simple and straightforward sentences as to why certain places in the United States are called what they are called. A must have for people who love history or love to travel.
