Quite enjoyable

An open-hearted lead character highlights this series which is better than average for a series of shorter cozy mystery novel. Each book gets better but the plot in each is complex and interesting. Book three is a real standout. I look forward to spending more time with these characters.

I bought all three books separately, but I wanted to share the summaries of my reviews for each book here as well :). I would recommend this series if you enjoy a good cozy mystery! The characters are great, the mysteries well done and I enjoyed reading these books.

Pancakes and Corpses
this was a very promising start of a new series. I enjoyed reading this book and quickly read through it. The mystery was well done and I hadn't figured out who the murderer was. there were some nice twist and background information and some personality things that got uncovered during the investigation. I would've liked to get to know the characters a bit better, but I think that might happen in future books. There was a lot of focus on the mystery, which was nice, although at times I would've liked to see a bit more focus on the other aspects as well. The story kept my attention and I enjoyed the book. It was a fun read and I am looking forward to the next books in this series.

Lemonade and Lies
I started this book right after book 1 as I really enjoyed it. Lemonade and Lies is a great read, maybe even better than the first book. I really enjoyed the mystery in this one and figuring things out alongside Julia. I like Julia as a main characters and the side characters are fun too. I especially like Jessie and it was nice to see more of her in this book. I was pretty close with my suspect for who as the murderer, but guessed the actual person wrong. There were some clues in that direction, but they only make sense once you know who it is. The side plots develop a bit more slowly, but they are fun too. I am already looking forward to book 3!

Doughnuts and Deceptions
this series is a lot of fun to read, they are fast reads with a solid mystery and some great side plot liens as well. I quickly read through this book and it fit the type of book I was in the mood for. The mystery was a good one and I liked how it deviated a bit from the standard cozy mystery. The police didn't investigate this time and only later on in the story some suspects popped up. I wasn't too surprised by who the murderer was, but hadn't figured it out myself yet. The side plot lines are great too and I like reading about the café, Julia, Jessie and the other characters. The romance also progressed nicely in this book. I hope I can read the next book soon!

3.5

These stories were ok.... The second book I liked best... But it was just an ok book as well... I didn't connect with the characters... I really didn't care for Julia ... Just to much of a goodie to shoes for me... I felt no connection between her and Barker... Barker did not seem like a detective inspector to me... He had no strength to me... Well written tho.... Hence the 3.5 stars...

I read this on the Kindle

A charming easy going murder mystery

Cafe owner Julia has a nack of solving murders even better than the detective even if he does become her boyfriend before the last book in this the 1st box set

There is more box sets or read each book separately this series is a good one when you want nothing to heavy

Good read!

I thoroughly enjoyed all three books. The last one had me stymied until the very last minute. I like books that I can’t figure out right away and a lot of cozy mysteries are easy to solve.

Fun series!

I loved the first three books and can’t wait to read more. Everything I like in a comfy cozy. The main character is fun and I like how much the author conveys that ‘family’ is important to Julia, the main character.

Peridale series, 1-3

Pretty good read. Seems a bit light on the English atmosphere. Enjoyed enough to purchase the next book in the series.
