I am really enjoying the offsides series (I've read them out of order but it doesn't matter too much). Layla and Juliet are twins. Layla is the popular cheerleader and Juliet is her unpopular nerdy sister. I thought Juliet would be my favourite but I like Layla story a little more. I may be in college now but I'm still a sucker for high school chick lits. And this book was adorable - played around with all my favorite cliches and made it work.

Right Text. Wrong Number. is written in alternating perspectives. There's Layla, a cheerleader who finds out that her boyfriend is cheating on her. In an attempt to send a scathing text to the girl at the other end, Layla messes up the phone numbers and instead sends a text to Tyler, a football player at her school. Now, Tyler and Layla know each other but it's not pretty - and it hasn't been since Tyler put a toad in Layla's lunchbox in the first grade. But Layla and Tyler continue texting each other under fake names and all of a sudden, there's something much more on the line.

I thought the plot for this was really cute! It's not an original premise by any means, but the author was able to take a well-known cliche and put their own spin on it. From the very beginning I was invested in the story and I really liked how their romance played out. I did think that the ending (more precisely the last 20%) was a little rushed, and because I'm a sucker for "big reveal" scenes, I wish the one in this book was more fleshed out and dramatic. The writing there dwindled a bit and I didn't think the climax was as heart-stopping as I had hoped.

I really liked the character development though! To be honest, I thought Layla was quite obnoxious at the beginning, but I enjoyed how she grew into herself as the story continued. Tyler, too, was likable - he was cocky, but he wore it well and came across as charming instead. There are other characters that I wish were explored more, such as Juliet or the parents - as I really love reading about family dynamics in YA books - but I do feel as though we're being set up for book two, so I'm sure there's more to come.

The writing might've been the most problematic part for me. Overall, I thought that the writing style itself was the typical YA style writing - it was straightforward and engaging. However, there were lots of errors that could've been avoided with more careful editing. There were sentence fragments ("Rachel flip out because she has a major crush on Jared.") and incorrect uses of they're/their ("'They're voices are terrible,' Juliet says loudly."). There were also some formatting errors where narration was typed out in the "texting font." Another slight issue for me was with the texting style - understandably people use shortcuts while texting, but I felt like sometimes the text-speech went overboard.

Overall, however, I still enjoyed reading this book - it was definitely a quick read and I think it would be suitable for anyone looking for a light-hearted chick lit! ...more

If this was written by a 16 year old I suppose it is ok. If not then I am leaning towards horrible.

Spelling and grammar was terrible. The way they talk irritated me. Do people say 'rents instead of parents? Maybe I am just too old for this.

When Layla found out that her boyfriend is cheating on her, she gets the phone number and text the other girl. But Tyler, her archnemisis, was the one who received it!

I heard good things about this book that's why I wanted to dive right in too. I love the plot. I guess you can say that the plot has been used before, but the author definitely made it her own, thus making it remarkable!

Lately I'm having really good luck with contemporary novels. I have not read one contemporary novel this summer, that wasn't amazing.

This book is just sooo good. I read it in one sitting. The writing is really light and pace paced.

Such a lovely story, I love how their story developed how they misjudged each other and slowly realized how much they loved each other.
This books really centers on how love is a deep feeling and not about the superficial stuff. How understanding and caring for other is important.

I was kind of hoping this one would win because texting the wrong number and falling in love is kind of one of my favorite tropes. I absolutely loved Text 2 Lovers, which is more NA, but still the trope is the same so anytime a synopsis remotely mentions texting the wrong number and it turning to more…I AM THERE.

They get messed up with communications problems in every damn page, at a certain point it just gets boring and you want to yell. This was such a super fun and cute read! I love reading hate to love romance tropes and I absolutely enjoyed reading this book. The story was both hilarious and romantic. After reading so many fantasy reads, I picked this up for a change in genre and I was looking for something fun. The story follows two high school students Layla and Tyler who are not only complete opposites they also pretty much hate each other’s presence. Layla is a cheerleader who thinks Tyler is a Jerk. Tyler is a star football player of their school and he thinks Layla is someone who thinks too highly of herself and everyone should bow down to her. When Layla finds her longtime boyfriend Adam sexting with some other girl, she lashes out her feelings of rage through a txt message to the girl but unfortunately, she sends it to a wrong number because of her Dyslexia problem that only few members know about it. The wrong number turns out to be Tyler’s number. When he sees a message from an unknown number in his phone, he plays along for a while for fun but later he reveals that she’s got a wrong number. From then on, they start chatting with each other using fake names but they’re still unaware of each other’s identity. In school, they always clash with each other but when they chat on phone, they act like they’re best pals in the world. Slowly their friendly relationship grows into something more and they both start to develop feelings for each other but what will happen when Layla finally finds out that she’s been falling in love with her nemesis.

I liked both the main characters in the book. I enjoyed Layla’s character but sometimes I hated her bitchiness towards Tyler. I’ve never met a character who has a Dyslexic problem and how they deal with it. Layla hides her problem from everyone because she’s afraid everyone would treat her as someone stupid. But despite her insecurities, she always stood strong and never let them hold her back which is something I loved about her. I loved Tyler! He is fun, sweet, sexy and totally swoon worthy guy with a good heart. Everyone knows him as a star football player who loves partying but they don’t know about the real him. I loved how Layla and Tyler’s relationship began with the wrong number. They both make a connection with each other by bringing their real selves in the online chat and sharing their issues that they never told anyone. I absolutely enjoyed their online sweet romance and also the offline clashing between them. People who love hate to love romance will definitely have fun reading this book. I also liked secondary characters especially Juliet, Layla’s twin. I loved the sibling relationship between them. I didn’t liked Julia’s best friend Rachel because of her extreme rudeness towards Juliet.

The plot is entertaining and also a bit cliched but still I enjoyed it. I loved the whole teen drama, angst and sweet romance. The story made me laugh, angry, frustrated and sad. I wish there was more sexy scenes between Layla and Tyler. Whenever they meet, I really can’t help myself from grinning. The pacing is pretty good and It never left me bored. My only issue with this book was the last twenty percent of the book which seemed a bit messy otherwise I would’ve given it a four star. I loved the dual POV of the book and also the witty writing style of the author. It was easy to understand and I flew through it without any struggle.

When Layla, a teen with dyslexia, accidentally texts the wrong number, she and the recipient of that text engage in a flirtatious screen-ship with no future. Until both of them realize they want more. The gentle and honest way the author addresses Layla's learning disability is one of my favorite aspects of the story. Layla's relationship with her identical twin sister, Juliet, is another favorite. As the mother of identical twins, the complex relationship of such close siblings is something I'd like to read more of in young adult fiction.

Plot
The plot centers around the relationship of Tyler and Layla. In real life, they hate each other. Or at least that's what we're led to believe. But things are far from black and white with these two. Their secret texting life is something completely different. Without reality getting in the way, they're able to communicate on another, deeper, level, and learn more about the other. Except they don't realize who they're texting. So many things can potentially go hilariously wrong, that of course they do.

The Characters
Tyler and Layla are complex characters with rich backstories and solid flaws that make them fascinating. Unfortunately, Layla's ex-boyfriend, Adam and a few of the female characters came across as stereotypical and two-dimensional. The clingy girl in the second half of the story was especially so. Because this is Tyler and Layla's story, I could ignore those secondary characters to a point, but they influence the actions of the main characters enough that they can't really be ignored for long.

Top Five Things I Enjoyed About RIGHT TEXT WRONG NUMBER
1. Angsty teen romance. My favorite kind of romance. This is a 10 on the angst scale.

2. Learning disabilities. The author handles Layla's dyslexia with honesty and heart.

3. Twins. As the mother of identical twins, I love the relationship Layla has with her identical twin sister, Juliet. Although mine are far more alike personality wise than these two, their special bond rang completely true to me.

4. Juliet. The loveable nerd is so much like my daughter, I took an instant like to her and can't wait to read her story next.

5. Texting first. I love the idea of these two getting to know one another through written words before the whole physical attraction bit could get in the way.

I was so excited to read this book when I saw the blurb. I LOVE the whole hate-turned-to-love trope, so this seemed right up my alley. And in some ways, it was. In others...not so much. I'll start with what I didn't like about it:

-This book is in some SERIOUS need of editing. Words missing from sentences, the wrong form of words used ("they're" instead of "their"), missing punctuation or punctuation in the wrong spots, or some sentences not even making any sense - almost like the thought was inc I was so excited to read this book when I saw the blurb. I LOVE the whole hate-turned-to-love trope, so this seemed right up my alley. And in some ways, it was. In others...not so much. I'll start with what I didn't like about it:

-This book is in some SERIOUS need of editing. Words missing from sentences, the wrong form of words used ("they're" instead of "their"), missing punctuation or punctuation in the wrong spots, or some sentences not even making any sense - almost like the thought was incomplete, with the rest of the thought still residing in the author's head and she just forgot to type it out, or she just typed it out the wrong way. I'm used to seeing errors in books because, hey, we're all human! And I might have felt better about it had this been a strictly self-published book, but I see there is an actual publisher attached to this, so I guess I'm just confused how all these errors slipped through the cracks...

-Layla's best friend, Rachel, is a terrible best friend. Maybe the book should get kudos for going against the grain of every other YA contemporary romance on the market that has the super-loveable BFF sidekick, but because it was so hard to like Rachel, it almost makes it hard to like Layla because she's willing to hang around somebody who craps on her twin sister all the time and does other horrible things.

-The ending. The pre-epilogue ending was anti-climactic, and then the epilogue itself ends so abruptly that, yeah, obviously we're being set up for book 2 in the series, but it makes me feel like I didn't get a complete book. It felt like more of a chapter-ender in the middle of a book instead of the end of the entire book. In my opinion, it just didn't pay off.

Here's what I did like, though:

-The premise is super-cute. It could have been executed better, but still, it was enjoyable to read about.

-The handling of Layla's disability was done fairly well and helped to make her a mostly-likeable MC (even though she could be really immature and catty sometimes).

-Tyler, while being hot and one of the most popular guys at their school, didn't overdo it with the arrogant narration in his chapters. A lot of novels these days with the Hero's POV just loooooove to make these guys come across as cocky as possible - to the point you want to reach into the book and strangle them - but I never wanted to strangle Tyler once, which I guess is a good sign. Although, I will say, the author kind of overdid it with how wealthy and successful his entire family is.

Overall, this isn't a bad book. I debated on whether to give it 2 or 3 stars, when what I actually want to give it is 2.5 stars. I settled on 3 because I'm feeling generous. Would I recommend this book to somebody else? Probably not. Did I feel like I wasted my time reading it? No, it was enjoyable for what it was. Hopefully someday, especially if it's going to be published in paperback at any point, it goes through the proper editing process, because if it did, it would be more of a 4-star rating for me. ...more

A fun and cute read for enemies-to-lovers fans.

I hadn't been having luck lately with my reads and needed a pick-me-up. I needed sass, nothing too emotional, and a good amount of tension that ended in a happily ever after. I was hoping when I picked this up that I'd get my modern day fix and it delivered.

My partner and I met over msn, and connected via text message for a number of years, so any book that has text theme always gets me courious. I loved how Lalya and Tyler's relatioship developed through text and how they were able to explore the day to day issues they were facing together. This book did not disapoint if was a fun read with the right balance of chemisty between Lalya and Tyler.

The concept was not, by any means, an original but Natalie was able to make it her own and create fun characters that helped make it an enjoyable read.

Although I found myself relating to her twin sister Juliet more, I thought Layla was alright. She had a lot of moments where I felt her animosity towards Tyler was childish and uncalled for (seriously, who holds grudges from the first grade?), and her stubbornness caused several eye-rolls, but I enjoyed seeing her character development throughout the story, especially when it came to relationships and love. Adam was absolutely terrible; in addition to cheating on her, he constantly belittled her for her dyslexia. I felt so awful for Layla for not only dating the asshole, but for going through the drama he put her through after she finally broke up with him. There were some moments where I was seriously concerned for her safety. Thankfully, with Tyler's help, Layla was able to end the toxic relationship she was in and stand her ground whenever Adam tried to get her back.

On the surface, Tyler is the stereotypical gorgeous but arrogant football player. Below the surface, however, he's witty, smart, caring, sweet, charming, and has a temper to match Layla's stubbornness. The exact foil to Adam, Tyler is respectful to girls, never makes fun of, or belittles, Layla for her learning disorder and - after he starts falling for her - always has her best interests in mind. The conflict between him and Layla in the first half of the book became annoying after a while; I was so relieved when he was finally trying to make peace with her in real life after he acknowledged his growing feelings for her. I wish there were more sweet scenes between them in person though! Having that would have helped ease the mounting irritation of their squabbles in person. Overall, seeing the slow development in their relationship was fun to see and it was so amusing how complications started to arise due to their texting and pretending to not be themselves.

Juliet was, by far, my favorite character because I could relate to her so much. I wish we had more glimpses into her life, but after finishing the book I realized that it was intentional because her story is likely the next book in the series. She is considered to be the "weird" outcast between her and her sister Layla because she's a nerd. While Layla is the popular cheerleader and social butterfly, Juliet refuses to blend into the crowd and is more aware of her identity than most of the teenagers in the school. I loved how openly nerdy Juliet is and how she's not shamed to be herself - even strives to show it whenever she can because she believes in always being true to yourself.

The writing was engaging and easy to follow, but needed more editing and polishing up. There were several instances where simple errors could have been avoided if there were just more proofreading. There were also a few inconsistencies in storytelling, which is always amusing and frustrating to catch. It was nothing major but just a pet peeve I can't help but notice when I'm reading. In one scene during Tyler's perspective, Layla ordered a burger and fries, but immediately afterwards in Layla's point-of-view, she also suddenly had a chocolate shake. Only seconds had passed since the perspectives changed so it was highly unlikely that she had ordered one while he was not around. Again, minor thing that wasn't a big deal but just bothered me.

Starting from the climax all the way to the conclusion of the book, I felt underwhelmed. I expected way more drama for the big reveal and a lot of repercussions to follow, but nothing major really happened besides the fact that their true identities were revealed to each other. As sweet as the scene between the sisters was, the reconciliation scene that followed was so disappointing that it downplayed the impact of Tyler's gesture, especially with that rushed and lackluster ending to their story. I wanted to feel compelled to read the next book in the series, especially because I adore Juliet so much, but at this point I was too disappointed to feel anything else.

I'm giving it a 3 star rating because the story was fairly cute (nothing original though), but I rated it less for all the errors in the book. They drove me crazy. Honestly, I came to read this book by complete accident. I had accidentally hit the "Read for Free" button on my Kindle Unlimited account. Since I had it, I figured I'd try it.

The Plot: Layla is the popular twin, dating a football player. Then she finds out that football player is cheating on her. The Plot: Layla is the popular twin, dating a football player. Then she finds out that football player is cheating on her. She sends a scathing text to the phone number she thought was the girl he is fooling around with, but she typed in the number wrong. This happenstance leads to the friendship between her and the boy on the other end of the phone line...she goes by the fake name "Faye" with him, and he goes by "R." It turns out the boy is none other than Tyler, the guy she fights like cats and dogs with. Tyler begins to suspect who "Faye" really is, but he's afraid to tell her his true identity. He enjoys their friendship and doesn't want Layla to pull away when she realizes who she's been opening up to. Now, Tyler tries to be a nicer guy to her in person, too. He wants he to like him for who he really is. All-in-all, this is a modern retelling of the plot to the movie Shop Around the Corner.

What I Did Like: I think the best part of the writing was from the male point-of-view. The author did a good job of tapping into a high school guy's mind. The main male character, Tyler, was quite believable because he wasn't a saint by any means, yet he still was respectful of women and had boundaries. That sort of common decency is something that all young people need to see. The author also did a good job of having the characters slowly form feelings for each other over the course of the book instead of it being instantaneous. The relationship was a lot more convincing because of that. The story line of the mystery identities is a plot that I enjoy in books, and it was decently well-done here.

What I Didn't Like: As briefly mentioned, lots of errors in this book. Missing, left-out words in sentences. Lack of correct punctuation, or sometimes punctuation in the wrong place. Misspelled words. All of these things were more than just here and there. It was hard to ignore.

The ending of the book is very abrupt. The whole book is slow and building, and then it just all happens at once, flatly, quickly, and ends the Tyler and Layla story. The epilogue switches to the other twin's point-of-view, Juliet, then leads into what I'm sure is the start of Book 2, with Juliet and Jared's story. The ending of the Tyler/Layla story was a big let-down. The author could have at least written a page or two more to finish their story off a bit better.

Conclusion: It was a cute, quick read. I finished it all in one night, so I guess that proves it was entertaining. The simple errors just need to be cleaned up. Despite that small annoyance, I enjoyed it. I plan on reading the second book when it is released on Kindle. I'd like to see Jared and Juliet's story, and it'd be nice to see some more of Tyler and Layla's relationship to get a little more closure there. ...more

I'm just going to start by saying I loved Right Text Wrong Number. It starts with almost instant drama between Layla and her boyfriend Adam. She catches him sexting some chick and she tries to fire back at the other girl and winds up text Tyler instead. From that point on I was hooked!

Layla is an independent cheerleader with a lot more layers than what she shows on the surface. At first, it seems she is a bit stuck up, but as I continued to read I enjoyed her character so much. She has insecurities when it came to certain things but that made her feel way more relatable. It was even better when she pushed past her insecurities and didn't let them hold her back. She also has a great relationship with her sister, which I thought was the absolute best. When her sister is picked on. Layla stands behind her and always has her back, even if it's her own friends who are doing the picking. Sometimes her naive or stubborn tendencies frustrated me and I just wanted to shake her. But really it was one of the things that made her who she was.

Tyler is another character that has way more levels to him then he lets others see. To the kids at school, he's a class clown who only cares about foot ball and partying. They don't see him struggle with his family issues, or how even the party boy sticks to a strict code on how to treat girls. He was a strong character and I loved seeing him fall for Layla and back her up with her dirt bag boyfriend. He's also a great friend, even though he can sometimes be oblivious to things around him.

Right Text Wrong Number really was such a joy to read, I couldn't put it down. It made me laugh, made me angry, frustrated, sad, and smile with glee. It had so much more going on than just the budding romance between Layla and Tyler which was another thing that made it great as well. And for those that love the drama, well it had that in truck loads. It's definitely one that needs to be read by all who are a fan of contemporary teen romances. Five stars to you Natalie Decker, keep it coming!

Texting the wrong person after you discover you've been cheated on isn't necessarily the best idea- fortunately it turns out to be someone you know, just not someone you like- Yet.

Tyler and Layla lead a private texting relationship, while Tyler in person realizes he needs to have Layla see the real him.

Right Text, Wrong Number is all kinds of dramatic YA fun. The pacing is quick and breezy, whilst being full of teen angst and romance. It's funny too!

Layla massively undervalues herself. She's the popular cheerleader who is afraid to be anything else. She often finds herself being influenced by others and their opinion of what she should or shouldn't be doing. Oh Adam! Layla is quick to judge not only herself but others. I was desperate for her to wake up and give Tyler a chance.

I think the editor of this book needs to work on their reviewing skills. There are tons of little typos and grammar errors in this book.

The gist of the story is that Layla finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on her when she discovers naked pictures of some girl on his phone. Layla attempts to text the girl but instead ends up texting the guy that she thinks is the biggest jerk in school. They continue to text each other however (under seudo names) and begin a relationship.
