The Emperor's New Clothes is a classic, and Deborah Allwright has made this story hilarious and entertaining for younger readers. The comedic style of the artwork lends itself well to the story, and the bright colors and funny facial expressions will delight all ages.
In the story, the Emperor is a vain man who hires two tailors to make his clothes for the annual royal parade. These tailors weave an amazing cloth which only a fool could not see... or so they say. No one wants to be a fool, which is how the Emperor ends up leading the parade in his new suit, which really means he wears no clothes at all. Only two children are brave enough to tell the truth, and the experience teaches the Emperor that he should not be so vain, which makes him "a much happier emperor from that day on."
This book would be a fun choice for students to have on the shelves of a K-3rd classroom. The book is too text-heavy for young readers to easily read, but they and the older students would enjoy looking at the pictures.
