~ Before Beauty and the Beast ~ An erotic Novella by R. L. Weeks from the award-winning series Can be read as a standalone
Felicity is on route to Beau to marry the duke. However, when she arrives, Alistair, the price and heir to the throne, catches her eye. His late night disappearances and roguish attitude send Felicity down a mysterious and strange path. When her best friend, the beautiful Anne comes to town, everything takes a strange turn. Felicity must decide between love or power - before it's too late.
The beggar who cursed the beast had a bigger story than anyone could have imagined.
I read this novella in one sitting, totally hooked on the fast paced narrative. I am new to the writing of RL Weeks but she came highly recommended in respect of her renowned Haunting Fairy Tale series. I was perfectly 'enchanted' myself with this story- relating a young woman's progression through love, lust, jealousy and betrayal. I adore the original Beauty and the Beast, but have to say this... Weeks has a startling imagination when it comes to bringing some of the shadow characters to life. The beggar who curses the beast was a genius diversion from the original tale. Thrilling at times - unashamedly dark and sexy, I rate this novella a definite five stars from a creative and talented writer. Did some scenes make me blush? Yes. But who would want anything less from an erotic peek behind the scenes of the fairy tales we grew up with.
Oh my! The author single handedly made me love and hate the main character all at the same time. This novella is a great backstory to her re-invisioned fairy tale books. The Enchantress put in perspective how and why the main character made the choices; especially, when it came to the curse. Now, I understand the main characters decisions-as heartbreaking as it was! I definitely recommend this read as a stand alone or as a companion to RL Weeks other novels.
This was a beautifully written short prequel to the Haunting Fairytales series. When we hear the story of Beauty and the Beast, we don't generally think about the Enchantress who cursed the Beast, other than as a plot device. But in this story, we meet Felicity, a girl betrothed to a man she has never met. She moves into the palace and meets him, only to discover that he has strange sexual desires and just wants to control her. But then she meets the prince and starts to think that her time as the castle doesn't have to be so bad...
My only complaint about this story was that it was TOO SHORT! I really got into the story and the characters. RL Weeks did a great job of painting a beautiful picture and telling a heartbreaking story of a woman who was tossed around in an unforgiving and cruel political ocean. I have the next book on my kindle and I am quite eager to read it because I just want MORE! :-)
Amount of sex 5 / 5 How explicit 4 / 5 BDSM/Fetish 4 / 5 Story 5 / 5 Overall: 5 / 5 Review: Ok I loved The Enchantress! The book is a little dark and mysterious. I knew it was part of the Beauty and the Beast story, but I couldn't figure out how. The twist was sooooo good!! This is definitely an erotic novella. It could have gone a little further (hence the 4 rating for explicit), but for a short book it was very sexy. Felicity is someone you want to help as she is plunged into this very strange world. She goes by choice, but her intended husband is not very nice and has a dirty side that Felicity is not so keen on. She falls for another and that is what truly gets her into trouble. I don't want to give too much away because it is a very quick read and a lot happens in a very short amount of pages. This is a great quick read with a lot of action both adventure and panty melting! A high recommendation! Definitely one to read! ** Voluntarily reviewed from an advanced copy **
The beggar who cursed the beast had a bigger story than anyone could have imagined.
I am torn between 3 and 4 stars with this book. It is a really short novella, a prequel to Weeks retelling of Beauty & Beast.
Felicity heads to Beau to wed to the Duke, but when she arrives it is apparent that the Duke is not what she intended and has some sinister ways to "teaching" her the proper way to be a Duchess. She finds solace in the castle walls in the form of the Prince who she see's leaving each night, she soon develops feeling for him after spending some time with him, but when her friend Anne arrives at the Castle the Prince is quickly captivated with her and Felicity becomes all but forgotten to him. The fact that she wed to the Duke doesn't stop her jealousy towards her friend, and soon she must make a choice love or power.
The thing I hated most about this book is that it skipped forward way to fast for my liking - I know its a novella but I feel it could have gone bit more smoothly, there seemed to be a lot of unanswered questions which I hope to get more in depth in the full length book.
For all it is a prequel I still feel a little lost about the "beggar", and really think there could have been more focus on the Amulet or more detail about it - after all it plays a huge part in the story
The Enchantress spins a dark & twisted turn on the retelling of the adaptation on the old classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast. This erotic novella is absolutely brilliant & stunning! The synopsis is intriguing and the plot will mesmerize your mind & take you under its spell. This authors writing style is extremely creative as well as distinctive. She has a way of creating a climatic tale that will have you lose yourself in her reality. A well detailed & descriptive novella that is cruel, heartwrenching, & sexy all weaved together. Character's are complex & well seasoned. I love reading royalty novels & with its paranormal aspect it makes it even better. This novel is brimming with betrayal, jealousy, spicy sexiness, mystery, and magic. I love the aspect of the amulet & what power it holds. Overall, a quick page turning well crafted novella of myth & fairytale.
I was intrigued by the blurb and decided to sign up for the ARC and review, I'll be honest in saying that I didn't enjoy this book anywhere near what I expected. I *know* it is a novella, but the pace was in overdrive. Snappy, disjointed snippets of conversations felt rushed and even forced at times. The writing style including word choices for the characters wasn't in line with the era being portrayed which makes what you are reading seem unbelievable.
I was genuinely curious for more background on Felicity and it would have made it easier to understand her frame of mind as the story began to unfold. The story has potential but definitely needs some info filled in and several dialogues enhanced upon so until then I give this 2 stars.
I've enjoyed some of Ms Weeks' other retold fairytale stories. This is a prequel to those interlocking stories and teaches us about what happened to Felicity, the enchantress who cursed the Prince into the Beast. The writing is so beautifully intense that I love, sympathize with, and yet abhor and despise the main character. I also despise the Prince and the Duke both. It's funny that I can love this book so much and yet the characters were so unlovable though in cases like Felicity, the reasons why tug at the heartstrings.
This is basically a prequel to Beauty and the Beast with a twist!! It's a well thought out very descriptive short story that I really enjoyed. It is brutal and sexy and heart wrenching and I definitely recommend you read it!! The author weaves a story that will have you on the edge of your seat and holding your breathe while eagerly reading what happens next!! Enjoy!!
Enjoyed this story very much. I feel for Felicity... she was so hopeful and excited till she met the Duke. He was crude and treated her with no respect. When Felicity meets Alistair I thought things would change for the better but I was very wrong. This dark and twisted story intrigued me and I was once again pulled into another wonderful world created by a this talented Author.
It was a good fairy tale, but I could have did without the erotic element, the darkness of the story was great. Then they threw in the male on male sex, let me just say men don't usually read fairy tales, so this was not a necessary element. Would have been a great story for young girls if it was just the dark story line. Adults only
This is a great book! I really love how the story is set up and I was impressed with not only the style, but with the story itself. I can't wait for the other books in this series!
OMG!!! I LOVED this short novella from R.L. Weeks. I loved reading her version of a back story to the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale!!! Once I started this story, I could not put it down!! There was so much packed into the pages!! There was drama, passion, love, betrayal, heart break, with a touch of magic.
R.L. Weeks gives a very interesting twist to the Enchantress who curses the Beast in the classic tale. She humanizes a character who not so much attention was given to in the past. She sheds some fresh light on the whole story.
If you are a fan of classic fairy tales...you are going to LOVE this story!! I highly recommend this quick read and look forward to reading more from R.L. Weeks' Haunting Fairy Tales Series!!!
100% SPOILER FREE. I received an ARC for an Honest review. Wow - just WOW. MIND BLOWN!! RL has done it again. There isn't all that much I can say about this short story except read it. While this is a prequel to her Haunting Fairytales series, specifically to Belle's story in book 1 The Enchanted Kingdoms & it holds it's weight in Gold this one is for Mature Readers only. This short has brought a new side to RL's series and you certainly won't want to miss it. So well written. A solid beggining, middle & end.. yet I'm left with more questions than answers now and I will be returning to the "updated" version of book one, not only because it's calling me to see if I forgot anything, but simply because the story is that good. The series is that good. The Enchantress can be read First if you haven't started the series, or at anytime throughout. I highly recommend reading this entire series, which has two more full length novels to be released and a few other spin offs. Definitely read them all.
I absolutely loved reading the prologue to the Enchanted Kingdoms series. R. L. Weeks brings a deeper understanding to the character and her world. I love and hate Felicity. I also feel for her and her predicament. As always, I'm never disappointed by R. L's work and look forward to future tales.
The book was so beautifully written, watching the love grow and then be ripped apart was so heartbreaking. This is RL Weeks twisted take on how the Beauty and the Beast story originally started. Loved this version!!
I love reading the other side of the story. R .L. Weeks delivered the perfect prequel to Beauty and the Beast! Telling her version of what she though might have happend to the witch to make her so heartless. I have loved R. L.'s work since reading Into Wonderland. I'm a a fairy tale junkie and this series is definitely one of the best.
The Enchantress was steamy, daring, adventurous, and thrilling. I can't wait to see what happens next!
I give The Enchantress (Haunting Fairytales Series Book 0) by R. L. Weeks 5 stars.
Yet another wonderful stir it in a perfect series!
The Enchantress is a short story that is the realm of The Beauty and the Beast. It is an erotic story and is about Felicity, the sister who is not as smart as one sister, not as pretty as the other. She has been chosen by a duke to be his wife. Traveling to another land, she is so excited and cannot wait for her fairytale wedding. She dreams of the handsome man who longs to make her his wife. But when she arrives, she realizes nothing is as she dreamt. The man is nothing like she was led to believe. Her life quickly becomes a living hell in which she cannot escape. Is this the way her life will always be? Can she change things for the better?
This was not a very long story but it was very enjoyable. Like the rest of the books in the series, it is quite well written. Like the rest of the novellas in the series, it tells quite a good backstory of the characters in the main books. This book can be read as a standalone too. I highly recommend this book.
I was already intrigued by the beginning and wanted to read on know more. The moment when Felicity met her future husband had me holding my breath with worry. Later, when she learned of his intentions as to her duty as a wife, I felt ill right along with her. The approach that the Duke took to "educate" the inexperienced Felicity was shocking to say the least. Her stolen moments with the Prince made me very curious about what would happen and if it would help her achieve happiness. When Anne was thrown into the mix, I had even more questions and reservations. There was no shortage of dark doings taking place within the shadows of the castle, although it surprised me when it began to have an effect on Felicity. However, after she was confronted by the Duke, things took a different turn than what I had been expecting. The end of Chapter 5 was spicy hot, but then things fizzled quickly. I sympathized with Felicity throughout the story and also felt her bitter jealousy in the pit of my own stomach. She had been wronged in so many ways since entering Beau. She deserved peace. At times, I felt as if the story jumped around a bit ramdomly, appearing to leave loose ends. But as things raced towards the conclusion, all of my remaining questions were answered and everything was tied up nice and neat. This was a terrific little prequel novella and definitely made me want to jump into The Enchanted Kingdoms next.
I received this very short prequel for another book the author is writing directly from the author. I felt like time skipped forward too many beats at a time, and that we could have spent a little more time getting to know the happenings of Felicity's life. I like that this story showed the other side of the story for the enchantress. I think a bit more detail about the amulet and exactly what power it has would have been good. It is a prequel for a new book coming out, so I am thinking the things that were not really explained will be examined in the book. Even though a lot was left out, I think that RL Weeks has built a strong backstory for her Enchantress. It will be interesting to see what she does with this in her version of beauty and the beast.
The Enchantress by R.L Weeks is again a book that was well written and creative. I have always enjoyed reading any and all books but his Author and The Enchantress did not disappoint.
Felicity, a young lady forced to marry a duke, she was hopeful at first that he would be kind and good to her. After Meeting him she was disappointed and afraid. Through her sadness of her impending future she finds happiness, not With The Duke but the Prince.
What she though to be happiness turned into a nightmare and when all is said and done you will be shocked at the end.
R l weeks does it again this is know fairytale like you remember. This is a fantastic story of myth and fairytale. This is a must read as are all R L Weeks books they will have you gripped by the edge of your seat.
