Yesterday’s Mysteries #3

Yesterday's Ghosts

Was it murder or a ghostly intervention? The answer is swirling all around them. Spelling death in the ether.

When a local man turns up dead at the Apple Blossom Festival ball, Anna and Pratt discover the man had been writing a tell-all book that outed the sins of a good portion of Crocker's residents.

So when the local cops set out to find the killer, it makes sense to enlist the help of ex big city detective Pratt Davies. Pratt's new in town and therefore one of the few who should be unaffected by the book and able to deal subjectively with the myriad suspects surrounding the murder.

But Pratt and Anna quickly learn nobody's beyond this particular gossip's range. In fact, it's possible Pratt's on the suspect list himself. Along with just about everybody else in Crocker!

Yesterday's ghosts is book 3 of the cosy Yesterday's mysteries. It can be read as a stand alone book, but to get the most from the book I suggest reading the rest of the series first because you will get so much more from them this way.

As with the first two books their is a glossary of colloquialisms from yesteryear America as spoken by the two resident ghosts at Anna's antique shop. Set in Crocker Indiana, the book opens with Anna and Pratt attending the Apple Blossom Festival Ball. The Ball is sent into chaos by the murder of local librarian Mike Pots. Local cop Bill Dresden sets about interviewing everyone at the ball and the list of suspects becomes extremely long when it is divulged that Mike Pots was about to publish a book about the townsfolk of Crocker. The contents of which were not pretty reading and it quickly became clear that many folks would have done anything to stop Mike.

Back at Anna's shop the ghost of Lissie Nelson arrives seeking help from the dark entity which follows her. Joss and Bess, Anna resident ghosts try to help Lissie discover what has brought her to the shop and what evil is also threatening to hurt someone.

These books are great cosy mysteries with clever twists and turns. I like all the ghostly characters and the relationship between Anna and Pratt is blossoming as the series evolves. I could easily have sat reading more about the past residents of Crocker and their ghostly characters, but perhaps there will be more in a new book in the series?

Yesterday's Lost, prequel - Oh my gosh, this book rocks! The intensity, the vivid descriptions, the hurry up and TELL ME what did it!, all these things eats up your patience in this fast paced, suspense filled story. It's almost with bated breath time in some places in this story; it's been a long time since a story affected me like this. Move over Koontz and King, Cheever can write this genre too! The author provides information about the characters and the series, as well as an overview of this story, which I appreciate knowing. 5*

Yesterday's News #1 - Read Yesterday's Lost first, there's a lot of foundation for the series, plus it's an awesome read! There's still the intensity, vivid descriptions and fast pace that makes this book difficult to put down. The characters are interesting, lovable or not, and run the gamut of types. The story line is well thought out and there's the twists and turns that's in every good book. There are so many possibilities where this series can go and I look forward to the rest of the series. The author provides an overview, which I appreciate knowing before I read the book. I've enjoyed all the books I've read by this author and with this series and her Familiar series, she has grown in her writing; and she was good with her Silver Hills series. 5*

Threads of Yesterday #2 - Ms. Cheever is a joy to read and this series is one of my favorites. I don't care too much for ghosts, unless it's a well written story, and with Yesterday, that's what the reader gets. I appreciate that all the characters, alive and dead, are a good blend, fit together well, and are easy to accept. There aren't any stupid folk drama messing up the storylines, but substantial material combining mystery, suspense, intrigue and a touch of romance in the making. I've read quite a few of Ms. Cheever's books and never been disappointed with any, but some are better than others. There's an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a story is about before I read it. Included is also a glossary of colloquialisms used for those who are clueless about the meaning of words used in the past. 5*

Yesterday's Ghosts #3 - This story starts a couple months after Threads of Yesterday ended. While each book is not a cliffhanger so far, there are background storylines and one of those is a doozie in this book. Old characters from earlier books appear again, with good and bad results. Our favorite ghosts are still around helping the living and the dead. The main characters keep developing and old secrets are being exposed. It's hard to investigate the murder of a slimeball, but his murder is a mess with the whole town as suspects. Intriguing and fast paced, another good addition to the Yesterday bunch. There's an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a story is about before I read it. Included is also a glossary of colloquialisms used for those who are clueless about the meaning of words used in the past. 5*

Yesterday's Tears #5 - Sadly, I skipped Yule of Yesterday #4, but I still made it through Tears. I don't how when Tears begins after the end of Yules. This is the most substantial read of the group, and all the previous books are good. Of course, there are multiple storylines and there's no cliffhanger. A lot happens in this book with the characters, their abilities and the multiple stories. The intrigue and suspense keeps the reader glued to the pages through a bronco busting ride to the end. Fast paced and action packed, the paranormal is pretty much an important player on it's own. There's a lot of involvement that adds to the layers of intrigue; making a depth to the mysteries. Nancy would be out of her element in this story. There's an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a story is about before I read it. Included is also a glossary of colloquialisms used for those who are clueless about the meaning of words used in the past. I found this book on Booksprout. 5*

Vance Bickershaw has converted the area above the stables to a ballroom and the Annual Apple Blossom Festival Ball is being held there.

While attending the Annual Apple Blossom Festival Ball, the librarian, Mike Pots, is found dead following an argument out on the balcony. A little investigation shows that Mike was writing a "tell-all" book about the prominent people of Crocker and little, if any, of it was nice.

Pratt gets a visit from Pam Rogers, his former partner in St. Louis. Pam is accompanied by her therapist, Dr. Morticia Phelps. Unfortunately, not everything is as peaceful as it appears.

Meanwhile, Yesterday's Antiques' resident ghosts, Joss and Bess, are trying to help Lissie Nelson remember who killed her and why her spirit is being tormented.

Who killed Mike Pots? Whose spirit is tormenting Lissie? Has Pam recovered from her ordeal in St. Louis? Can Anna and Pratt restore peace to Crocker?

The story is very intricate with plenty of overlapping mysteries. The characters are realistic and believable.

I like a good supernatural mystery that doesn't feel evil

This installment of the series was not as funny, and witty as the last story. The characters Anna and Pratt were interesting and the case they were involved in was plausible. I really like how the ghosts Bess, Joss, and Lissie are critical to the overall storyline. Anna's and Pratt's sleuthing skills were believable. I like how the main characters never did anything stupid. I recommend this book. I am getting the next book in the series.

Haunting

I found out about this book while attending a virtual book club party and participating in a contest during the party. It haunted me until I just had to buy it. From the first paragraph I was lost in the characters, the story line, all of it. I want to meet Joss and Bess and ask them about their lives. I want to spend time in Yesterday's Antiques.
Everything about Yesterday's Ghosts feels real. This is one book that I did not want end. Now to get the rest of the series so it won't end. :)

The third book is ultimately leaving the normal and diving straight into the paranormal. Ghosts are not only part of it but the main thing. Which makes it scarier than before but the story is still captivating and the romance very sweet. I was a bit confused about Lissie's background story, I didn't fully get it but maybe there'll be another book someday explaining everything. I hope so!

Excellent book. Another winner in this series by Ms. Cheever. When a murder has occurred and a tell all book comes to light that the deceased was going to release has some vicious things he’s been spreading on his blog well everyone in town is a suspect.
Sit back and enjoy the ride. It has twists and turns. Oh and so much more.
You don’t want to miss any book in this series.

Yesterday's Ghost

I thoroughly enjoyed the book trying to work out who did it and it's funny as well.
Love the resident ghosts. I won't go into the story line you will have to read it yourself . It is well worth it. Will definitely read Sam Cheevers other books.

This is book 3 in the series. I have not read the first 2 books, but was able to follow the back story fairly well. Anna runs the antique shop in Crocker along with the resident ghosts. which brings a lot of supernatural activities her way. "Beneath the pretty blonde, green eyed exterior was a strong woman who’d carved out a living and life in Crocker, Indiana, wading through small town prejudices and just about everything the spiritual world could throw at her and coming out ahead every time.". Lucky for her, Pratt and Joss have her back and act as her partners in solving the mysteries they come across. Great characters, great story, the mystery reveal was well played and revealed a little at a time with lots of suspicion so that you didn't know who it was until the big reveal. Well done! Enjoy! I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
