I bought this edition with the pink cover in the 1990's for around $2 it's in descriptive notation it's alot better than the Harding Simpole reprint with the generic white cover don't get that one the diagams I heard aren't great.

Pillsbury's best games up to 1900 are covered inside the book is a picture of Pillsbury that was lent by the Secretary of the Brighten Chess Club and there is a forward by Irving Chernev.

If you can find this used at a book shop or a chess sale get it.

This is an old classic. The annotations and analysis are a touch dated but it has been updated to algebraic notation. That would rate about 3 starts. Most important this has been created to mesh with the e+Books app (apple only unfortunately) which adds in fully usable boards to either follow the game, analysis or puzzles/problems. This is what rates the 4 starts. I would like to say I look forward to many more in the series but since it is Apple only I'll finish the handful of books I have and hope someone else takes the idea to more platforms.
