This was one of those books in my school library that I borrowed again and again. For an aspiring young feminist in the 1980s trying to understand / challenge stereotypes, it provided a glimpse into different ways of living. Looking back, I can see it was a pivotal book
that expanded my horizons.
There are lots of books/messages around this issue these days but this book holds a special place in my heart. I got to meet one of the women interviewed in the book a few years later in the early 90s and told her that it had made a big impact on me (she was a mechanic). She looked a bit non-plussed!
