The Enchanted Princess

Rate this book
As the royal heir of Zelnon, Princess Elodie should be living a charmed life. It is enchanting in a diabolical way that could destroy not only her existence but those she cares about as well. Her coronation is set for her eighteenth birthday, but an evil force is determined to destroy any chance she has of becoming queen.

A week before her birthday a curse is enacted sending her to the nightmare realm of Malediction--sweeping her, a trusted guard, and the prince of a neighboring kingdom into its dark clutches. Escaping the world is impossible, but if they don't find a way out they will either die or become permanent residents of the dreamscape.
If Elodie doesn't return home in time her kingdom could be lost to her forever. As they battle for their lives, every decision exacts a monumental price. They must make sacrifices that will burn a hole into their souls and every step brings new risks. With victory within reach, they realize that it comes with an irremediable loss and must suffer the consequences of their actions.

This was a really cute story! The fact that it ended on a huge cliffhanger? Well...I'll definitely be on the lookout for Book 2.

Narrator:
The narrator did a pretty good job overall, especially since she seems to be new to the narrating field. There were a few areas that caught my attention though. 1. The first 3rd of the story it seemed the narrator would move back and forth in relation to the microphone. I don't know if she realized this was happening, but with her voice going from normal tone to suddenly quieter...yeah, I noticed.

2. I've noticed that with some narrators (new or not) they'll read the story as it's written. Wait! Isn't that what they're supposed to be doing? Well, kinda sorta. To me, when a narrator reads exactly what's written the voice sounds stilted. For example (made up line), "She should not be going or else he will get mad;" this might sound fine but when I hear someone speaking it, well, saying it as "She shouldn't be going or else he'll get mad" sounds smoother and more natural. I guess I just prefer the contractions better. A similar area/issue is when words are pronounced exactly how they're spelled or what I refer to as proper English. For example, the word certain. It's pronounced: cer-tin by the narrator, yet, when speaking who actually pronounces the "t?"

3. Again, new narrator here so I can understand having a few issues. Well in the story after the princess and prince leave the witches house there was a lot of repetition on the narrators part. This is a first for me, I've never heard this in any of the audiobooks I've listened to. Obviously, when reading something for the first time, plus recording it, there will be some outtakes. Well, in this case, those outtakes seemed to included in the audiobook.

4. I don't want to leave the narrators part of the review on a negative note. She did a great job for her first time. She has a lot of potential as well and did a great job with male and female character voices.

On to the story:

I liked this one. It was original and held my attention the entire time I listened to it. Yet, there were certain words that the author used repeatedly that stuck out to me. Perhaps she was trying to sound smarter? I've listened to plenty of stories of like (audio, paper, e-book). The number word that stood out to me was "ascertain." Who actually uses that word when they're casually talking? I can't imagine many do. Yet, the author had the princess trying to ascertain, many times, what was going on. Sorry, randomness like this always stands out to me.

In the end, I'd recommend this story to others.

Elodie is one week away from her 18th birthday, when she'll inherit the throne from her evil stepmother Fiona. Her stepmother is strict and won't let Elodie learn to fight and defend herself, but Elodie has been training in secret with one of her guards, Cale. Returning from training one day, she's told that her stepmother has betrothed her to a minor prince from a neighboring kingdom, Daire. Elodie has despised Daire since he pushed her into a mud puddle when they were children, and has refused to see him since. Learning that he's her betrothed enrages her.

Elodie decides to run away, and Cale and Daire follow her. A mysterious force whisks her away to a different realm with the two men. Talking flowers, murderous trees, blind seers, and a magical force are the least of what she'll face there in her struggle to return to her proper realm and the kingdom that is rightfully hers.

This was a clean YA read with light cursing. It didn't end on a cliffhanger, but it's part of a series so the main conflict wasn't completely resolved. The dialogue was a fun mix of modern slang and formal speech, Elodie said 'Whatever' and 'As if' like any valley girl, and then reverted to formal speech. It made me laugh every time. I really enjoyed the world the author created. The magical realm seemed a bit like Wonderland, bewildering and with no clear rules. I liked that the tables were turned and Elodie was the one out to save the men, rather than being the damsel in distress. I hope we see more of Fiona in the second book, I want to know what made her 'evil', and why Elodie would be a better ruler than Fiona.

I liked Elodie in the beginning, I love a spunky heroine who can kick butt. She was very abusive though, she slapped Cale and punched Daire without provocation, and spent a good portion of the book thinking about punching, stabbing, and killing Daire, and not in a joking way. She had to be physically restrained at one point. If it were a male lead repeatedly thinking about punching the female lead, he'd be the villain in the story.

The narrator's voice was a great fit for Elodie, she narrated dramatically and with spirit. She performed voices for several of the characters like Lulu and the witch. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

She'll Pay 💰The Cost
Wow! What a page turner! I loved all of this fairytale from the very beginning.

Elodie👸💋🔪, is the princess about to become queen on her eighteenth 🎂birthday. Fiona👺,Her stepmother ,the current queen, is an evil conniving woman. She arranges for Elodie👸💋🔪 to marry👰 her nephew, Daire🐺, without her knowledge.

Unbeknownst to Fiona👺, Elodie👸💋🔪 has been learning the arts of combat, swordsmanship and archery, from a knight. Cale🐺🔪, the knight, is tall, dark, ripped and handsome, and Elodie👸💋🔪 falls in love with him.

Daire🐺, her betrothed, is tall, blonde and handsome, and a deadly archer. He is light hearted, compared to Cale🐺🔪, the intense one.
Elodie👸💋🔪 goes to see the White Witch in the forest, and receives several cryptic insights from her, but she can't decipher them.

Elodie👸💋🔪 decides to run away, rather than marry Daire🐺, but he follows her! Cale🐺🔪 joins them too, since he is her protector, above all.

The book was $4.99 on Amazon at the time of this review.

The book has the paranormal elements that every well written fairytale should have! The book📕 ends in a cliffhanger, which I detest.

I enjoyed the story, it has all the hallmarks of a story that will be considered a fairy tale in the decades to come:
- Evil stepmother - check
- Forced betrothal - check
- Alternate love interest - check
- Knights - check
- A heroine unwilling to wait to be saved - check, check, check

I love that Princess Elodie is determined to be able to take care of herself, there is damsel in distress here! I'd read this again.

But I wouldn't listen to it again, nope, eBook here I come. I know I gave the narration 2 stars which suggests it was bad, but mostly it's just really REALLY badly edited. There are dozens of sections where the audio repeats because a mistake hasn't been edited out, some are small, just a couple of seconds a fair few are 10 seconds or longer, and in some cases the audio is there three times. It had a large impact on my enjoyment of the book.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

The Enchanted Princess by Dawn Bower.

If you like Fantasy worlds... this is a buy buy buy buy book.
Well this is a book I did not expect. It has historical, fantasy and mystery. All of those are the elements of a good book. Not my usual Genre, however, in this instance I cannot wait to read book 2 of the series. I marked off in stars for some small errors in language and perhaps the heroine irritated me a little for not using her brain at times and at others showing she had the brain to use! Even with that, I became lost in this world of fantasy and did not put the book down if I did not have to. I sincerely enjoyed the way the story unfolded and am only a little upset that it stopped as it did. This writer and her imagination make a wonderful world for readers to be lost in. So buy the book and when The Bespelled Knight is Released follow it ….. You will enjoy it.

I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom

If you are looking for a calm, sedate, relaxing book, this is not it. Elodie is a princess, soon to turn 18 and take the thrown away from her not so pleasant stepmother. She wants to be a warrior queen, so has conned one of her knights into teaching her swordplay. The current queen has other plans for her. Elodie, the knight Cale, and a prince Daire, end up in an enchanted cursed world that is dangerous, confusing and difficult to escape. If you can read this and not want to smack Elodie, you are a better person than I. However, I tried to keep reminding myself that she is not yet 18 and most likely hormonal as well as self absorbed. Cale is a brooding knight with secrets who is committed to protecting Elodie, while Daire is a bit of an enigma. The ending is a tee up for the next book in the series, as it leaves you with more questions than answers.

She was forewarned. She has to make the right choice. Elodie has an uncaring evil stepmother named Fiona who has been ruling the kingdom since Elodie’s father died. Elodie loves Cale, the knight who has been training her, but all of a sudden he is leaving and Fiona has betrothed Elodie to her nephew Daire who Elodie thinks is a spoiled brat. But on the night that Elodie tries to escape, both Daire and Cale follow her, but then they find out she has been enchanted and the three of them find themselves in a strange dangerous world, not sure if they can ever get out. Who did this to her? Was it Fiona? But she was forewarned that someone she trusted would betray her. Who could it be? And will she ever get back home to be coronated queen and find the betrayer? Nearing her 18th birthday when she is to inherit the throne from her evil stepmother, Fiona, Elodie has been preparing herself by learning fighting skills and defensive moves to be the warrior queen she envisions herself to be. Although Fiona would not have allowed allow this, a protective knight, Cale, has been training her in secret.

When she returns from a lesson, she is informed that Fiona has promised her hand to a minor prince, Daire, whom she despises. Not willing to accept this, she runs away and is followed by both Cale and Daire, but the three of them are mysteriously taken away to a different and dangerous cursed realm filled with magic. Can she get back to her own kingdom? Or will it be stolen away from her?

What a journey Ms. Brower takes the reader on in this book. Elodie is a beautiful princess who is sassy and excels with the sword. These are not exactly traits future queens should or would need. Sadly, she is kept under the thumb of her evil stepmother. A curse changes the course of her life forever.
This book is a fast and adventurous ride for Elodie. It has magic, a crazy bird, evil curses, dark forests, strange tales and characters and much more. Once I read the first page, I just kept flipping the pages until The End. There was not one dull moment in the book!
I received an ARC of this book. The choice to read and review it was all mine.

This is an enjoyable and intriguing fantasy story with a young princess pitted against her step-mother. I found the world, action, and adventure interesting and exciting. I did not really like Princess Elodie, but I enjoyed her companions, and the story kept me reading in spite of the female MC.

It is important to note that this book is part one of a continuing story, rather than being one in a series of standalone stories. You will not find out the end of everyone's stories unless you read additional books.

Dawn Brower

I thought this was wonderful! So not what I was thinking when I started reading this book. It was great though. I loved the interplay between the characters, and the descriptive universe that Dawn Browser takes us into. The twists and turns in this book will keep you guessing what is happening from beginning to end. That is always what makes a good book you can't stop reading. Elodie and her friends will not disappoint.

This was an amazing story. While this is diffeent from anything I have read of dawns before she so nailed it. No need to send the knight on the white horse cause she's gonna need to save him. Filled with humor, saving the prince, and a talking bird you can't go wrong with this great read.

The first part of a series. Nice storyline and plot. I missed some connection with the main characters. The story did not have that chemistry I had hoped. It is a fantasy story but it lacked depth at times. Enjoyable to read though. Because it is part one of a series it ends in a cliffhanger.
