Barely a Fairy Tale #3

Rose Red Rebellion

Rate this book
Andie Knight might not be looking for trouble, but she has a knack for finding it. When an impromptu photoshoot in her old Brooklyn neighborhood lands her in the middle of an ongoing investigation, she's forced to lean on undercover cop and bona fide hottie, Cole Michaels. Unfortunately for her, this reluctant hero seems to think she's a delicate flower and he's intent on protecting her...from himself.

Cole would give anything to keep Andie out of harm's way. The woman he's come to think of as the angel of Brooklyn doesn't belong in Cole's world of devils and danger. But while his angel is sweet, she's also stubborn, and she has her sights set on him. He might be tough when it comes to the bad guys, but does he have the strength to keep Andie at arm's length?

Short, fast and cute. I thought the romance was sweet but the action part of the book was lacking. There is the promise of good guys vs. bad guys but it doesn't actually happen as part of the story. So, mostly, it is the thoughts of the two characters involved in the romance as they start to like each other, hurt each other and so on. I was a bit frustrated at times when the author would stop the action to spend several pages writing the thoughts of the current character. Then when I expected the action to pick up it would be summarized in a paragraph or two. But, I did enjoy the romance.

Andie is a pink haired, wide smiling optimist. She sees the good in everyone & bestows her easy going, impossibly friendly smile on them no matter who they are. She went into a tattoo parlor looking at art to decide on her next tattoo & saw Colin. She seemed to see through his appearance to the heart of him.

Colin has been undercover at the tattoo parlor for months. He's dangerous looking, hot & sexy & with his art ability, it's the perfect cover. He's seen the woman he dubbed the Brooklyn Angel around the neighborhood innocently sharing smiles with everyone. Then she came into the shop & he was lost. He's never fell this deep this quick. He isn't going to get involved with her until he realizes that purely by accident, she's managed to attract the attention of the very guys he's watching. He has to protect her some way.

This is the first book I have read by this author & I'll be reading more. She has a way of developing characters that appeal to the reader & draw them into the story. The plot is fast paced & has enough danger to keep you reading. This was pretty much a love at first sight story. The supporting characters are Andie's friends & family other than Colin's partner. They add dimension & color to the story. I really enjoyed the ability of this author to set the scene , draw the reader in & keep them engaged.

I liked this sweet and suspenseful romance!

Once upon a time… there was this guy, Cole, and he was an undercover cop. Cole was a tough guy. He looked like a bad guy, but was actually one of the good guys. When he met Andie at first he thought that she was really sweet, naïve and a bit unreal even. But what he didn’t realize was that she wasn’t naïve or weak, but open, trusting and positive. She could read people well. Cole found himself very distracted by his attraction to Andie and that distraction was something that he couldn’t use, because their lives were at stake.

This book is about romance and about catching a criminal. About being in danger and how Andie and Cole find each other despite all the hardship.

And they lived happily ever after.

This book is a contemporary romantic comedy with suspense, you can read it as a standalone (although I would recommend reading books 1 and 2 first) and it is loosely based on a fairy tale. It is well written. The POV (third person) changes from Cole to Andie. There is a lot of sexual tension in this book, but as this is the sweet version, the door closes in time.

There is also a spicy version of this book; I quite like the fact that you can choose between sweet and spice!

The cover doesn’t really match the description of the main characters and could be more ‘fairy taley’.

I’m loving Maggie Dallen’s Barely a Fairy Tale series. Each of them had been a to of fun and now, in Rose Red Rebellion (the series third book) we even get a bit of well done romantic suspense in “street angel” Andie and undercover cop Cole. Once more the author’s trademark believability is abundantly present, both in the developing romance and in just how Cole operated as an undercover cop in the context presented in the story (nope, I’m not giving anything away, but trust me that this is really, really good). Bottom line here is easy: total enjoyment. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - the book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.

An enjoyable read about an ever-sunny and optimistic heroine and the hot undercover copy who finds her irresistible. Lots of tension as Andie, the heroine, has the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and gets mixed up in the investigation into a local crime syndicate. Andie's half-sister was the heroine in the second book in this series "Snow White Espionage" and I preferred that book and the humor in it a bit more than this one. Still, a good plot and the characters are well drawn, plus the author brings Andie's new-found sisters, their significant others and their friends back as they all get involved to protect her from herself!

I received an ARC of this book from the author at no cost. This is my honest review.

This book is too sweet Andie and Cole make a cute couple together. Cole is trying to keep Andie at arms length my being a grumpy bear but Andie takes it in stride with her over the top positive attitude. There's some action and drama due to the nature of Cole's job that Andie get roped into but with friends and family they make it work. Cole feels that his world is to dangerous for Andie and almost blows it but it all works out in the end it's adorable reading big grumpy bear Cole melt for Andie. Definitely a great read!!

And there is a spicy version of this book too!!

I received this ARC and this is my honest opinion.

I loved reading Andie and Dagger's story! Andie is a pink haired, amateur photographer who is always smiling and sees the good in people even though she was orphaned as a child and had a rough life. Cole aka Dagger is an undercover cop working as a tattoo artist. Cole admired Andie from afar for months and the two finally meet when she walks into the tattoo parlor that he works at. From then on their lives are a whirlwind of action ~ running from the mob ~ and romance! Highly recommend reading this book!

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book that I have read by this author, and although there were some references to the 1st 2 stories, I did not feel lost.

I found this story a really fun story to read, and I could not put it down. I have read it in a little over a day. I loved the story of Andie and Cole, their love story was so sweet, and destined to be together. I cannot wait to go back and read books 1 and 2, as well as other books written by her.

Seemed too short

While the second book in this series had some insta-love with Hunter and Jenna's week long journey to HEA, this one actually seemed more rushed, as if with the foregone conclusion that Andie and Cole were each other's ONE, the author didn't have to actually try to make them fall in love. Because of that, I never felt like Cole was really in love with Andie. It was more like he was trailing in the wake of her certainty that he was her home.

I loved this! Loved the characters! Andie is quirky and feisty! Cole is swoony and determined to protect Andie! Loved the storyline! Even though it is a quick, insta-love story it doesn't feel like it's rushed or missing anything. It has drama, humor and heat and packs quite a punch for a short story! I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

She appears to be naive and innocent, when he finally gets to talk with her.
He is a jaded undercover cop, who only sees the dark side, especially when a lowlife starts buzzing around an innocent such as her.
It's a story that has to be read, to be understood, but it's well worth the time and effort.

Great story

What happens when Rose Red finds her Bear? This story has just enough romance and mystery to make it a fun quick read. I couldn't put this book down.

I loved reading this book.  It's a fast paced, can't put it down type of book.  As Andie meets Cole, gets involved in an under cover police investigation by accident and the two fall in love, you'll be cheering from your chair.  It's a love at first sight, with all the excitement and angst involved.  This whole series has been great, you won't want to miss this one either.  Ms. Dallen has a way of pulling the reader in and keeping you so you won't want to put the book down until you've reached the happily ever after.  I received a free copy of this book and happily and voluntarily choose to leave a review.
