This was a lovely read. Anecdotal accounts from Calum Macdonald about his life growing up on at St Kilda and his experiences after leaving the island. It reads as if your sitting there listening to him talk. There are many funny, nostalgic and poignant anecdotes. I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the tweed making, bird hunting and night fishing. An engaging first hand account of St Kilda life.
I appreciate that this wasn’t written by a professional so I make allowances for this. I expected more about life on St Kilda itself, rather than the author’s life after he left it, therefore I enjoyed the first part more than the second.
