When her parents die from fever, Lady Sarah Montgomery Baird Watson-Wentworth has to leave India, a land she was born and raised in, and travel to England for the first time. Finding it almost impossible to adjust to London society, Sarah flees to the county of Cheshire and the country estate of Grangeback that borders the village of Stickleback Hollow. A place filled with oddballs, eccentrics and more suspicious characters than you can shake a stick at, Sarah feels more at home in the sleepy little village than she ever did in the big city, however, even sleepy little villages have mysteries that must be solved.
It's All Hallows' Eve in Stickleback Hollow and the annual ball at Tatton Park is being held. It is Sarah's first formal engagement since leaving London, and she isn't looking forward to it - especially when the people she thinks of as friends are not invited. The veil between the spirit and living worlds is at its thinnest, and evil forces seem to be lurking everywhere.

It's the annual ball at Tatton Park, and one place Lady Sarah really doesn't want to be. As always Lady Sarah Montgomery Baird Watson-Wentworth is getting herself into trouble in Stickleback Hollow, but when does that ever come as a surprise when it comes to Sarah. Another great read for this series, I really enjoyed the story and yes again I was routing for Lady Sarah and Mr Hunter but then that happens every time I read about them! Here's hoping that my routing will pay off cause I really don't like any of Sarah's other suitors. Fantastic read, which I'd recommend to all!
Sarah, along with the Brigadier, have been invited to the Tatton Park All Hallows Eve celebrations. However, two of the party are missing. Sarah defies convention to find answers. I like the independence Sarah shows in this novel, and especially the suspense building to an exciting climax.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
the books are just too short. I am enjoying the story and the intrigue as it all unfolds, but I wish the books were longer. Books one and two surely could have been combined into one. Oh well...I guess the author makes more money this way.
This second book in The Mysteries of Stickleback Hollow series was very exciting. Many near death experiences, disappearances with wild beasts kept me very entertained. I enjoyed that a romantic interest may be happening soon. I recommend reading.
All Hallows' Eve, when the lords and ladies gather at Tatton House and party the day away and then go out to the village to give alms to the less fortunate. But this year, the villagers hosts their own festivities to welcome the gentry, a nice surprise which was cut short by a scream, followed by some of the party being kidnapped.
I really enjoy Lady Sarah and her no nonsense approach. She is gutsy and independent and not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. She is also kind and sweet but of course in those days, kind and sweet is all good, but gutsy and independent is such a no no. I am just glad that she is the ward of the brigadier. Great read, wish it was a boxset so that I can keep going!
