My best friend gave it to me as a Christmas gift, probably because he's an insightful and jocose person: he gave it to me, I think, because it was both meaningful and it mocks my proclivities regarding women.

Filipina Eurogamy is a great essay that chronicles the Filipina's fondness for light-skinned men. He even appends his study regarding this, and theorizes that it may be because of our historical colonization from both the Spanish and the American. In the female psyche, the Caucasian has been seen as the dominant presence in our society, and that may have carried over to the women of today.

Nowadays, however, it's more of a fondness for Korean men that has become pervasive in our society, although this is purely an empirical statement. As for me, I've always been fond of light-skinned, sloe-eyed women ever since I was eleven years old. Throughout high school, and even through college life, I have been steadfastly attracted to pale women with catlike eyes. That hasn't changed nowadays.

Hall's hypothesis, then, falls flat with regard to me, especially because I don't see the Koreans or the Chinese as having dominated the Philippines (although they most certainly are much better off). I think, despite my Filipino heritage, I'm a lot more attracted to their females because they have similar cultures and beliefs as I do: I love the meritocracy propounded by Confucius, and I love the culture that recognizes and applauds intelligence. That's the Asian way: I guess I would love a partner with the same amount of diligence, perspicacity, and intelligence as do a lot of Asian females have. (That's the reason why there's a meme regarding Asian parents on the Internet.)

The catch is catching one, however. ;)
