A record of grisly deeds done in Barnsley and District from 1664 to 1913. Black Barnsley was first published in 1985 and updated and revised in 1999, with the addition of three additional crimes. It is a record of of selected events, usually ending in death, which captured the attention and imagination of our forefathers.
I bought this book from a charity shop. I liked reading the case studies from the areas I have visited a number of times. These studies are relatively unknown nowadays.
An interesting look and account of some of Barnsley's darkest crimes. The format was a bit tiring but you can't do much else with a chronological book highlighting some of the crimes that hit the town.
