Soraya Nicholas

As a horse-crazy girl, Soraya Nicholas dreamt of owning her own pony and riding every day. For years, pony books like The Saddle Club had to suffice, until the day she finally convinced her parents to buy her a horse. There were plenty of adventures on horseback throughout her childhood, and lots of stories scribbled in notebooks, which eventually became inspiration for Soraya's very own pony series. Soraya now lives with her husband and children on a small farm in her native New Zealand, surrounded by four-legged friends and still vividly recalling what it felt like to be 10 years old and head over heels in love with horses.

She is also a successful romance and women's fiction author, writing as Soraya Lane.

I am commenting on behalf of my 8 & 9 year old daughters.

Both girls devour the Starlight Stable Series. They find the stories exciting and identify with and love the characters. Their favourite parts seem to be the horse riding action scenes as they come to me and read those scenes aloud. They don’t seem to mind reading the books multiple times while they wait for Soraya to write and release new work. I wish to thank Soraya for turning my 9 yr old (who was a reluctant reader) into an avid reader.

This text was about a young girl who realised that her family (who ran the stables) were facing financial difficulties, she tried to see if she had enough money to save her pony and then decided to enter a competition that had a prize of $500. With this she could save her pony, but would she win the competition?
I liked the book because it was about horses. I think it highlighted how equestrianism can be expensive if something unexpected happens. It also hi lights how the bond between a horse and rider is huge and often riders will do anything just to keep the horse/pony.

I think this text was interesting because of how I could relate to it, not that I have my own pony but that I would do anything to keep riding. I don't really think there was any characters that we unusual or that I disliked. I guess the event in this book that I found shocking was the fact that sponsors of people can just drop them out of the blue, I don't know if this is true but if this is it could be horrible.

From this text I learned that life isn't always easy, your luck will come and go but you need to keep pushing on if you want to achieve something. I think that this is a good lesson for people (myself included) to learn because we are often so quick to give up when it sounds to hard but I think that its good to persevere.
