Ride 'Em, Cowboy

Rate this book
There's a whole lot more to a cowboy's life than just ropin' and ridin'. A day on the range begins when the rooster crows and the cowboys saddle up their horses. At the end of a long day of work, they kick up their heels, square dancing and spending their pay, until it's time for bed and dreams of riding rodeo someday. The book's lively text and vivid tableaux bring a cowboy's day to life for young readers.

The text is pretty corny, but kids get a kick out of me yellin' "Yee-haw! and shoutin' other bits out of the dialoge.

What I really like the painted wood sculpture illustrations, there is something vaguely Brokeback Mountain about them.

This book is not a great choice for Storytime (0-5) as it is quite short and the pictures are quite simple as well; it is over way too quick. A couple of the kids commented why the cowboy and horses looked 'wierd'.
