Eric Liddell was born to run. From childhood, his physical abilities brought honor and fame—culminating in a gold medal at the 1924 Olympics.
But it was another run that really the race of life mentioned in Hebrews 12 (“. . .and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. . . .”).
Eric Liddell’s commitment to God was so strong that he once skipped an Olympic qualifier because it was held on Sunday. His scrupulous faith was chronicled decades later in the movie Chariots of Fire . At the height of his fame, Eric traded track shoes for hiking boots, taking the gospel message to the vast land of China. His life there was cut short, but the shadow he cast was long—with millions still finding challenge from his faithful example.
Excellent book and easy read. My initial knowledge of Eric Liddell was from Chariots of Fire movie back in early 80's. The book deals with his athletic accomplishments, but focuses more on his character and profound ministry after his Olympic glory.
This concise biography brought to life the Olympic and missionary journey of Eric Liddell. I had forgotten many details, and the ending made me so sad (and thankful that we are all together as a family!). It pointed directly to God as the source of his success and deep humility and servant-heartedness underscored it all.
Amazing 🤩! God was his rock, and he gave him a heart to serve him in China 🇨🇳 ( after he won 🥇 in the 1923 Olympics) ! I know about him ( he was mentioned in another WWII book l listened too) but this book was more informative about his entire life. Just inspiring and moving.
This is an amazing story of a man who loved the Lord and used his talents and gifts to show others the kindness of Jesus. Every young person should read this book it teaches us to persevere and be faithful even in the hardest moments of our lives.
