A fair improvement over the previous year's worth of strips as Caniff's style evolves with each strip produced. Character features are much more defined and expressive, while backgrounds continue to grow more detailed and varied. Collecting strips from '35-'36, the story primarily follows Pat and Terry's dealings with the scheming thief, Burma. A romantic interest and foil to Pat Ryan, Burma's presence in the story is intriguing as her motivations remain clouded for significant portions. Burma's enticing nature adds a depth towards both understanding Pat and Terry as characters, all while the action picks up around taking down the raider known as Klang. The Dragon Lady rejoins the fold as an unlikely ally, making this a rewarding venture for returning readers.
Though the stories have quite been elevated too much yet, it's great to see the strip constantly evolving as Caniff becomes more comfortable with the production of the strip.
