Someone has killed a judges daughter in a terrifying manner. The complex case puts Olivia in the right place at the really wrong time in regards to her feelings for a certain blond ADA.
I think I'm coming to the conclusion that traditional mysteries are not my favorite. That said, this is about as good of a mystery as any that I've read in this genre and even provided for some realism that I find is sometimes missing in other books. The mystery also wasn't so obscure that I didn't guess who committed the crime but there were enough interesting elements thrown in to make it not 100% predictable, either. And, as a fan fiction, it was written in a way that it could easily be a television episode itself. In a convoluted way, I'm saying this was well done.
Since the starring character in this story is a special victims unit sexual assault detective we get a pretty gruesome crime scene with triggers all over the place...be forewarned. There's also a BDSM theme running through the storyline, though it is alluded to since it was something the victim engaged in, not what our lead love interests pursue.
The side characters add some entertaining variety to the story and the leads have a decent amount of chemistry. I think a viewer of SVU: Law & Order would have more emotional investment in Alex and Olivia than what I had. Though their interactions were good, I felt there were things unsaid and unseen that I was missing.
Overall, the writing is strong with plot, dialogue, editing, etc. I give this 3.5 stars for myself personally but I do recommend the read (especially since it's free) and think mystery lovers would rate it higher.
