A very funny send-up of Salman Rushdie's "Satanic Verses" among 96 pages of satire and spoof written by the editors and writers of "Private Eye", the British precursor of "Spy" magazine and an institution among Brits in the 60s/70s/80s/90s.
A 1987-89 compilation, from early in Ian Hislop's time as editor, proving once again that Private Eye is funnier than it used to be. It's odd, because so many of the jokes are the same. But they've gotten more ruthless in paring the writing down, hitting the punch line and moving on.
