במאי 1997 פרש אביגדור ליברמן במפתיע מתפקידו כמנכ"ל משרד ראש הממשלה והלך לעשות לביתו. "עצות שלי שוות הרבה כסף," אמר. מאז ובמשך קרוב ל־20 שנה ליברמן נכנס לחיים הפוליטיים ויוצא מהם, ובפסקי הזמן בין תפקידיו הציבוריים הוא מקים חברות עסקיות או מחזיק בהן. מיליוני דולרים הוזרמו אל חברות אלו במהלך השנים.
המשטרה חשדה בעסקיו של ליברמן ובמהות קשריו העסקיים. בפרקליטות הצטברו הררי מסמכים ועדויות שנאספו במהלך חקירה מסועפת שנוהלה נגדו. עו"ד אביה אלף טיפלה בתיק ליברמן מטעם הפרקליטות. תפקידה היה להפוך את הממצאים שאספה המשטרה לכדי סיפור בהיר על התנהלותו המשונה של איש ציבור בכיר מאוד וקשוח מאוד. את הסיפור הזה - סיפור על עולם סבוך ומרתק של יצרים ואגו, תככים ואינטרסים, פוליטיקה ארגונית ופוליטיקה
מדינית - היא מגוללת בספרה.
היועץ המשפטי לממשלה יהודה וינשטיין קבע שהסיפור לא מספיק משכנע. הוא החליט לסגור את התיק נגד ליברמן.
הפרקליטה אביה אלף חשבה שזו החלטה שגויה, אומללה.
הספר הזה הוא ההזדמנות שלכם לגבש עמדה. על אביגדור ליברמן. ועל התיק שבית המשפט לא זכה לראות.

After reading the book there can be no doubt: the man (Avigdor Lieberman) is guilty as hell and he got away scot-free only because an inexplicably lenient Attorney General (whom Lieberman had helped to install in office - what a funny coincidence) botched the case and then dropped it.
Just one example among many: Lieberman sets up a consultancy firm, with his 20-something yo student daughter as registered owner. The firm netted about a million dollars in income from sundry nabobs, nearly all going into the Lieberman family pockets (he himself was listed as employee for a while).
This looks like kickbacks from the nabobs to the politician, right? But, hey, maybe it's all legit. So the police asked the daughter what were the payments for - she couldn't tell, saying she just provided overall oversight as owner and only the CEO knows the details.
Fair enough, they next bring in the CEO (an old political crony of Lieberman) and ask *him* what were the payments for. He wouldn't tell. Okay. So - hold tight, this really happened - they say to him: "We are gonna ask you a really easy question. Can you take us to the firm's office building?". And guess what? The guy was not even able to find the address of the firm whose CEO he has supposedly been for a couple of years.
If this is not kickbacks, I don't know what kickbacks are.
