Bob Jordan has been telling stories for years. It all began in 1971 when he took a creative writing class at Pasadena City College. His professor's first assignment was for everyone to sit out in front of the institute for one hour and write down everything they saw. Bob thought it was stupid at the time but went ahead and did it, and boy is he glad he did. That one hour changed his life forever! It forced him to see beyond what he was looking at. For instance, instead of a bus traveling down Colorado Boulevard, he now saw a silver air conditioned transportation vehicle belching out black smoke, carrying folks of all ages and lifestyles each with their own unique story, to their appointed destinations.
Man, if I had an opportunity to purchase the car that Steve purchased, I would do the same thinghe did! Take a month off and just drive. However, I do not have those means and I do not have that kind of opportunity available to me as a teacher. This book is rather interesting, having lived in Utah, Nevada, and Arizona. I recognize some of the places talked about in the book and that made it that much more enjoyable for me. What happens to Steve that freaks him the heck out and makes him run away? Can it really be worse than hitting someone with your brand new car? Yes, why yes it can. When Shelly shows up at the Diner and has a talk with Steve, what unusual tale is laid out for him? What does he say and do? What does he find out about his friend Carlos and his last big deal that he scored at work? What does this prompt him to do? Wait until you see what happens when the Russians show up. What is everyone looking for? What questions does everyone keep asking that Steve keeps giving the same answer for time after time? What happens with his job? Does Steve ever make it back to Holbrook, Arizona from California? Does he buy into the story that Shelly told him? Talk about a book full of conspiracies or maybe just theories, or well, you'll have to make your own decision. I don't want to say too much more about the book because I would give something away that I don't want to. Just know I was engrossed in this book.
