Basic Intro to Kidney Disease and diet, but the recipes need some work.
This book has a generous (almost) 90 recipes, but only 50 of them are slow cooker. So not all the recipes are made for the slow cooker. I also found the recipe categorization a little confusing. For example, chicken and turkey were listed in both the "Meat" recipes AND in the poultry recipes. Drinks and Desserts also shared a category and that seems like it should be two different categories.
Additionally, I noted several editing errors throughout the book. For instance, Sweet Juice (and several other recipes in the "Drinks and Dessert" chapter - has a subtitle of Tarragon and Pepper Pasta salad - so I'm pretty sure that's a mistake considering it's in the chapter on drinks and desserts and the recipe contains neither Tarragon or pasta.
Some of the recipes also contained mistakes that made them difficult or impossible to follow. For example, Lemony green beans calls for no broccoli in the ingredients, but includes them in the instructions.
These are just the errors I saw during a casual reading of the book. I didn't even attempt to try the recipes with all these mistakes.
This Renal Slow Cooker Cookbook has over 50 delicious & extremely hearty Renal Diet Recipes that really and truly cook themselves. I have a grandmother who suffers a lot of illnesses, and one of them is Kidney Disease. I decided to cook her a few meals using this book and she loved them! It's so sad considering the types of meals she would make herself, that just looked like slosh and mush. I am very pleased with this read and I can't wait to try a few more! 5/5
This book allows you to go down a healthier path by providing you with scientific and chemical composition information. I found at least 10 great recipes that fit my health options. Good luck to all on this journey.
I'm big on slow cooker recipes, so when I saw that this had 50 of them I was pretty excited. Not all of these recipes are slow cooker related, so I felt that the title was misleading. They are fine recipes, though and I enjoyed using them.
Easy to follow. I like how in the beginning, it has a list of food that the author encourages to eat and a list of foods to stay away from. I have not made a meal yet but will do so in the near future.
There is a lot of good information in this eBook for those with kidney disease. The book starts with an introduction to kidney disease and nutrition needs for the various stages. It gives some good basic information and advice from the author, as well as precautionary statements regarding checking with your doctor before beginning this or any other diet.
In addition to this background information, this recipe book also includes a variety of recipes which are geared toward those with kidney disease. Although the title of the book specifically says "slow cooker cookbook," the book also includes a few recipes that are made using other methods. This in no way detracts from the book, but was unexpected as I was looking through the book.
The recipes in the book are easy to follow, and include nutrition information, which can be helpful in managing your kidney disease. The only thing I did not like about the book was that the ingredient list was written in a smaller font than the instructions were, and this made it harder for me to read. Since I opened the eBook on my computer, it was easy enough to enlarge the print so that I was able to read it without a problem, and it was more of a minor annoyance than anything else.
The book was categorized into sections for meats, poultry, soups, salads, etc. so finding a specific type of recipe isn't an issue. I enjoyed looking through the recipes though I have only tried a couple of them so far. There are others that I will be trying soon, and I think that all in all, this is a good collection, especially for those with renal/kidney problems.
I really enjoyed this e-book. It's not only chock full of delicious recipes for those on a diet focusing on kidney health, it is also packed with lots of useful information about renal disease and kidney health in general. It also goes into describing the signs of kidney disease and how to lead a healthy lifestyle if you are affected by kidney disease.
In addition to the recipes, I appreciate that the author also has lists of foods that someone with kidney disease should choose to eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I found this to be an all around great e-book. I am planning on trying several of the recipes in this e-book right away. The best part is that they are slow cooker recipes, so they are easy to prepare.
If you or someone you know has kidney disease and is looking for information on maintaining a healthy diet, this is e-book is a great place to start.
