Some details are meant to be kept secret. The result of simple pillow talk will leave two best friends fighting to survive.
Diamond and Mica have been best friends since grade school, and have always watched each other’s backs. After Mica moves out of their drug-infested neighborhood, they have a scandalous falling out and lose touch. It isn’t until Diamond hooks up with one of North Philly’s most notorious drug dealers, Kemp Lo, that she’s able to leave the place that she’s always called home.
Under extreme circumstances, Mica and Diamond meet up and are back on the map as the Laverne and Shirley of the ghetto, but unfortunately, both of these friends have ulterior motives for rekindling their friendship. The two plot to get rid of Kemp and hit the road with his fortune, but one of them has her own sinister plan that could leave the other staring death in the eye.
Keep your friends close and enemies closer, this statement is very true for this book. This book finds Diamond from a rags to riches story and unfortunately the going to the top requires sacrifice and making enemies along the way. Mica finds her self being a hustler girl and having to face competition from women from every corner. While battling her personal life. Fate bought these two women together and lies and betrayal will destroy them. This book was a good read!
Up late at night just to read this book and the ending.....my mouth is open. Had to start the next book 'rat nye'! Very good and my first Brittani Williams novel but not the last.
This book was about two females who grew up together until a tragedy tears them apart. While they are apart they are both gold diggers, and yet completely in love with their drug-dealing boyfriends. Their men are both dogs and puts them through hell. Everything I just said could have been made into one chapter probably...Not over half of the damn book! How many pages do us readers have to be forced to read about what new nonsence Davey got going on in this chapter?? Enough already! We get it! He's a Dog! Now move on to where this story is supposed to be! No need to dwell on that. I don't have patience for silly girls in real life and I certainly don't want to read about them.."But I love him"...enough. It dragged and dragged until finally it actually began to get good and then I realized that I only had 5 pages left in the book..So, now I'm angry. I've read 200 and something pages of bullcrap just to get excited and now you're telling me that there will be a Part 2?? You have got to be kidding me..
Two girls named Diamond and Mica, whom knew each other since their childhoods, lost their friendship only to regain it back, although there are always secret motives. Mica escaped the “hood” and lost contact with Diamond, now Diamond was married to a guy at the time named “Kemp Lo”, he was on of the biggest and well known drug dealers of North Philadelphia and was able to escape the “hood” as well. Then you can say, that’s when the deals were called and out to do anything was Diamond willing to do, just for the riches. So them two called their selves becoming friends again, But Diamond would go to Mica, so she could help set him up, so she could run off with all of his money.
Brittani Williams is an entertaining author. She writes in ways were you could connect with the people in the books because they’re easy reminders of someone you may know in your life. Also with that, morals and messages that she is trying to convey through her books are visible throughout the pages. I don’t even need to go far into the book to see that. For example, “Two people that I trusted, the two people that I would have taken a bullet for, were right there in my home betraying me.” (pg. one) The matter of trust, and betrayal, that was just an example of how, even the people whom are the closest to you are able to mess around and deceive you.
I found this book to be full of action, tragedy, betrayal, and courage. I could sit and see everything that has had happen within this book, to happen to anybody that I know. It’s that realistic. I’ve learned that even the closest people to you can turn their backs on you without you even knowing at first, people can be very deceitful.. And also you should be careful bringing your boyfriend around your best friend. ☺ I would definitely say that, life isn’t predictable, and you never know what may happen next. Also, you shouldn’t love people for what they have but for who they are.. material things aren’t worth trouble.
I would recommend this book to adults; the profanity, content and obscenity in this book may be way too mature for young readers. The book is of an urban background and may be more relatable to those whom relate to that kind of life. The genre of the book can be understood to be street literature or urban fiction. Me myself would consider it, realistic urban fiction. I enjoyed reading this book, it was very entertaining and I wasn’t able to put it down once I started reading it. Also other books by Brittani Williams are Daddy’s Little Girl and Sugar Walls.
Listening to this book was like being in the scene with the characters, Diamond was about the money after being hurt by her Ex boyfriend Davie, she vowed to never love another man again. Mica never liked Diamonds after her father was murdered. This is an excellent series so far, great character development.
This was a pretty good read for me. It was on the recommended list for my audio books. This is my first time reading a book by Brittani Williams. I enjoyed the book overall. It shows you how some girls with daddy issues can affect the type of man a woman/young lady chooses in her future. How we can make poor decisions based on how we were raised. But then again who says if their fathers were in their life they would not have come out the same way.
Anyway this is a hood tale about 2 friends who grew up together and ended up being separated after tragedy struck. They meet again as grown ups via unforeseen events and see how they can rekindle their relationship.
In the end someone is not so lucky and the 2 faced shit that they do will catch up with them. The way it ends confirms that their is going to be a part 2.
I am listening to this book on audible and I must say, this was a great book and the reader has a great reading voice. The storyline was great. Both Diamond and Mica were grimy, however so were the men in their lives. I can't wait to read the next book!
Excellent read! First time reading anything by this author and she definitely didn't disappoint. The fact is women should strive to be independant and never rely on any man! Unfortunately both characters had to learn the hard way. So happy Diamond finds out who she truly deserves to be with.. very eager to read the second book in this series. 5 stars all the way!
I wanted to like this book so bad but I felt like this story was all over the place. I listened to the audiobook and the story kept me interested to know what would happen at the end but I didnt really enjoy it. Not gonna keep up with this series
This book is the second book that was on my library's Urban Fiction Book Club reading list.
It was a fairly quick read and it leaves you on a cliff-hanger in the prologue.
I appreciated the approach the author took to start the book, it was a very dramatic beginning that makes you want to read the rest of the book. I also appreciated how the author provided the background story for Diamond and Mica. However, I had some issues with the story. My first issue was the lack of description for the legal process of Diamond when she was set up by her boyfriend. In the book she was read her Miranda Rights, she was interrogated, she was booked, then she was arraigned, then sent to prison for 9 months. There was no description of her having a lawyer or having a trial. That really bothers me that the author just glossed over that part. Another part that really bothered me was the fact that Diamond was educated. She had a degree in accounting, but she never used it. She had a way out of a life dealing with drug dealers, prostitutes, hustlers and murderers, but she preferred to not use her education since her boyfriend was taking care of her at that moment (despite him constantly cheating on her). This part really bothered me as well. After she was released from prison, I do understand her hesitation to try and use her degree, however, she was misguided thinking that she couldn't use her degree and get a job. To me I think she was afraid of change and frankly didn't want to change her life for the positive. Granted, this kind of life is all she knew, but there is more to life. The author didn't give her the opportunity to at least try and use her degree. It was almost a waste, and frankly should've just been taken out of the book, simply because it didn't make a difference. Reading the book made me sad, because she could've used her education to start a better life for herself and her mother. Mica's life was just as sad too. She wasn't given an opportunity to branch out either. She had to rely on men to provide for her and her mother. I was disturbed, when reading that Mica's mother didn't want Mica to break up with her boyfriend since she would have no way of paying her bills. Mica's mother would often blame Mica for the relationship issues. Mica was constantly surrounded by negativity and toxic relationships. She had no way of escaping these relationships.
Overall, I was disappointed and saddened by this book because of how the author wrote these women.
This book "Black Diamond" is about two girls Diamond and Mica two childhood friends until tragedy tears them apart. Both ladies go there separate ways and had to endure different live tragedies. They both have a motive to gain wealth and live fabulous lives. The question is who comes out on top?
Diamond was married to a guy named "Kemp-Lo" well known drug-dealer in North Philadelphia and she was able to escape the "hood" so was Mica. Then when things went wrong you can say that deals were made and Diamond was willing to do anything for riches. In the making Diamond and Mica became friends again and the plan was Diamond would go to Mica and set up "Kemp-Lo" and set him up and run with all the money.
Brittani Williams is an entertaining author. She writes stories in ways you can connect to real life issues and books. Also with that being said she had messages ad morals in her story that she tries to put through her stories but are visible through pages. Example; " Two people I thought I trusted, the two people that I would have taken a bullet for, were right in my house betraying me". (pg 1.)
This book is full of tragedy, betrayal, action, and courage. You could read this book and make real life connections to someone you know and visualize everything as if it were you. Its that realistic. This book shows you that life isn't predictable and anything or anybody can change in the blink of an eye. No matter who you are betrayal does happen.
Wasn't disappointed at all with this book. First time reading a book by this author I have another book by her that I know want to read.
Diamond and Mica was best friends growing up but, Mica blamed Diamond for her brother Johnny killing there abusive father. So they lost connect due to that.
Diamond was so needy that she dealt with a man Davey that was cheating and giving her a STD. For her to try to keep him she did a threesome that lead to some more crazy stuff. For her to learn her lesson she ended up locked up for him.
Mica was so stuck on Tyson she mainly loved the money that he had. He took care of her and her mom. But, Tyson end up in some crap he couldn't get out.
Diamond then finds another man by the name of Kemp Lo that she went after. They ended up married. But, she learned her lesson from dealing with Davey she didn't love Kemp Lo she loved all the things he was about.
Under some bad things Diamond and Mica ended up finding each other. Diamond had some plans of her own to use Mica to set up her husband Kemp Lo so she can get his empire.
At the end I was stocked at how it ended. I know it has to be a part 2 to this because if not I am going to be upset cause I want to know what is going to happen next.
Great read. Would totally read more by this author.
I didn't know if Diamond or Mica was more trifling. They went from being the best of friends to one blaming the other for destroying her family. Both girls found themselves with dudes that didn't amount to anything but was blinded by what they thought was love. I wanted to slap some sense in Diamond when she was dealing with Davey because even though she had her reason for staying, she was stupid for thinking things would change. It took one final act for her to realize how Davey truly was but her thinking after the situation was crazy. Mica was so caught up in what Tyson provided that she wasn't much better than Diamond. Both had the gold digger mentality but didn't see themselves as one. I was waiting for Kemp to realize the type of person he was dealing with when it came to Diamond. Mica realized the amount of love Tyson had for her once meeting Kemp. I swear both Diamond and Mica were so busy scheming and I was waiting for it to backfire on both. I'm still a little skeptical about Black though. I know after that ending things are about to get real. I wonder if Black played any part in getting Diamond to trust him and if Diamond is ready for the war she created by being so scandalous and money hungry.
The writing is disorienting and choppy. There is no smooth transitions from one thing to antoher and a lot of holes were left in the writing. Sometimes these holes were filled chapters later sometimes never. It alsmost like a gian puzlze and not the good kind that you love to piece together. The piece can easily be written as a linear story but the other puts no structure to it so you get background on something that you have already forgotten you read about. There is also the fact that the author is extremely repetative, saying one thing and then stating almost word for word the exact same thing moments later. The reading is just no fun for me. No sophistication in the writing at all and not expressive.
Man....this book was good! Black Diamond is a story about friendship AND so-called friendship. Love and hate. Sistahood and backstabbing. Pay-offs and Pay-backs. This is a book that I would definitely recommend! I was immediately caught up in the drama! I disagree (respectfully!) with the reviewer who said this book paints black women in a bad manner. Since when does someone read a book and says the characters represent all black women? I'm sorry, that doesn't make sense to me. But at the same time,,,,come on....we do all know one or two women like Diamond. We might not want to get too close to them . . . but we do know them! Keep up the good work, Miss Brittani! I can't wait to read your next!
I really enjoyed reading this book. Black Diamond will have your attention from page 1 until the end. Diamond and Mica were once best friends until a tragic event brought their friendship to an end. Both ladies went their own way and had to endure different tragedies in their lives. Another tragic event brings the two women back into each other lives. Diamond and Mica both have a motive with hopes to gain wealth and live the fabolouse life.The question is who or will anyone come out on top.You will have to go out and pick up your copy to find out what happens, it is worth every penny. Later going to start on Part 2 because I have to know what happens next :-}
omg this book was crazy diamond was all about the money, power nd respect she wasnt gon let some ex-bestfriend get in her way.Mica was a backstabber she try to mess up diamond plan of get all of kemp lo money. diamond was a sucka for love with davey she did any nd everything for him. i think i know that mica was going to turn her back on her man tyson she was goin to ruin the plan for diamond.dang black really didn't care that diamond was kemp's wife he was willing to fight for what he wanted. sheesh kemp lo showed no sympathy toward nobody when it came to his money........
This book was a pretty good read and really easy to read. At first I didn't like how the chapters were set-up,but eventually I got used to it. I like how she didn't leave you hanging to much at the end, by giving us a preview of the next book Black Diamond 2: Nicety. For that I'm seriously considering reading the second & third books. I have also added Brittani as one of new Urban authors to read from.
This book was ok. It took awhile for me to read it even though I was interested the whole way through, but it wasn't something I couldn't put down. It took too long to get to the point and once it did, it was over. There was also a few errors in the book. I'm assuming there might be a sequel. I'll probably end up buying that.
This book is very interesting. I learned that you should never take no one for granted! When you have someone do not take them for granted because they can be devils and people can turn their back and be backstabbers. This book teaches you a lesson to find your correct friends! And people that will be there for you.
