Netspaces: Space and Place in a Networked World

Rate this book
from the back cover:
How does our increasingly networked world impact on how we experience and inhabit urban space? This book reflects on the nature of the spatial effects of the networked and mediated world; from mobile phones and satnavs to data centres and WiFi nodes and discusses how these change the very nature of urban space. It proposes that the places and spaces of the city are shifting into a new merged space of the network; netspaces.

This was a really fascinating look at the ways that technology is interlinked with physical space and the ways that our networked world are changing the ways that we interact with our physical world.

There was a lot of interesting analysis and a ton of references to other resources and analyses. Sometimes it was so heavily entrenched in other sources, though, that it felt like Willis' own discussion was lacking. My only other major complaint is more from a copyediting perspective - the use of semi-colons is rampant and rarely correct. There were enough other minor punctuation and copyediting type errors that it was really very distracting from the content.
